75-Man Cuts - August 26th

This one is not hard until the last three spots.

1. Josh Aladenoye
2. Dezmon Briscoe
3. J.C. Copeland
4. Stephen Goodin
5. Tom Hornsey
6. Casey Kreiter
7. Orie Lemon
8. Jordan Najvar
9. Adewale Ojomo
10. Ronald Patrick
11. Dontavis Sapp
12. Johnny Thomas
13. Keith Smith
14. Ryan Smith
15. Wayne Tribue
16. Asa Watson
17. D.J. Adams

Then I go with:
18. Caesar Rayford
19. Will Smith
20. Tim Benford

The only real shock might be if the team comes to grips with dumping Matt Johnson's incredible talent.

Not sure about Patrick or Najvar this go around

I can understand that. There are a lot of injured players that allow subpar talent to exist on the roster because we cannot play a game because we are carrying so many non-productive players.

I think Benford lives through until final cuts. He's shown some hustle on ST.

He has been around a long time. His problem is that he cannot fill a niche and he lacks the physical makeup the team looks for. And you are right, he has hustle on ST, but it might not be enough given the restrictions of the roster size.

He is the type of player that would probably good in developmental league, which is something I wish the NFL would seriously look at. It would help the game immensely.

I fully support that.
The NBA has the NBDL, but I do understand that there are a lot more moving parts to a football team than a basketball team.

Still- it would be a nice thing to have and could potentially help the league itself in the long run.

The NCAA is the developmental league. You've gotta serve 3 years. That's enough really. Very few guys are going to emerge later - at least not enough to make it worthwhile.

Also, please see NFL Europe. Very little development for the cost. Yes, there were a few but the hit rate was very low and the level of play awful - well below division 1 NCAA

The NBA also has far smaller rosters

Quite my point. Less moving parts.
I totally understand that. I get that is a major reason why a developmental league hasn't already happened.
I was just saying it would be nice if there some minds (obviously much brighter than my own) that could figure out a way to make it doable and then do it.

Yeah. But it did happen. NFL Europe.

We have a development league now - 250 or so players on practice rosters.

I think Will Smith sticks around. For one, he's a draft pick. For another, with Holloman being hurt, we need the LB's. Also, I wonder if they try to get Patrick to the PS. If so, not sure if it makes sense to cut him now. Otherwise, I think you're list is pretty accurate.

NFL Europe was not about developing talent as it was a failed attempt at exposure. Most teams treated it like a joke.

I don't know how much development would happen, but I've always thought that if each NFL team had a minor league team that played in the Spring or Summer that there would be fan interest.

I don't think it will ever happen because it's too big of an undertaking to put together a 32 team league. Teams like the Cowboys could probably make money from it, but teams like the Jags would probably lose money unless everybody split up revenue equally.

If NFL teams sent their practice squads then there are at least 90 - 53 = 37 players per NFL team with some ability to play football that aren't on NFL teams.

It's my understand that minor league baseball teams are profitable and they're not even televised that I know of.

So people actually think Matt Johnson is going to survive the 75-man cuts? lol.

I will say this - if he does survive, I will be furious.
