Old Eddie (did he land on his feet yet?) does have a valid point. The NFL is playing this next CBA negotiation like an Oak Ridge Boys golden fiddle. They are teeing up a couple of issues that they will "relent on" in exchange for a 17 game season and perhaps some % of the revenue. Their sacrifices?
1. Relinquishing discipline to a third party. What's the concern? Not much. That third party will in effect be on the league's payroll so there's still a measure of control there.
2. Marijuana usage. Think the owners really care whether or not the players smoke to relieve pain or actually get high? No. What they do care is that they can trade in relaxed drug testing for concessions by the NFLPA.
