8 picks

So, we're sitting here with 8 draft picks this year.

As of now, we have TWELVER next year (7 + 4 comp + Miami's pick).

Does this team really have 8 open spots this year? Of course there is depth and STers, but we can find a few in UDFA.

We could use a backup QB (but it's not a priority).
We could use 1 RB, if not 2.
Another FB can't hurt.
Add a WR (trade 28 for Boldin please).
Doubt we touch TE with our 3.
Tackle? Doubt it unless there is little faith in Free, Marten, McQ
Guard? Possible to groom to play over Kosier and good depth
Center? Doubtful unless it's a C/G swing and better than Procter

DE? I like Campbell, but we are deep there unless we move someone
DT? Can't hurt, a big guy, but that replaces Johnson

OLB? Another body, a tweener, but late
ILB? We're logjammin' here, but you never know.
CB? Add Pacman and a guy at #22 AT LEAST

S? Another SS for ST

So, that's QB, RB, RB, FB, WR, G on offense if you get picky. That is 6.

On defense, DE, DT, OLB, ILB, CB, CB, SS if you get REAL picky. That is 7.

So, trying to get more depth everywhere and it's 13 new guys. 8 draft, 5 UDFA. I doubt we really need 13 spots. We really just need a WR, RB, and CB then add depth.

I can see us being real active after that first round this year (like we aren't used to that with Jerry yet), but the team is real close, so why not give up some later picks and some next year?

I'm not saying the top 3 next year, but some later stuff. Stock that CB depth right now.

#22 - best CB unless there is little there
#28 - Boldin? Roy Williams? Otherwise best value if not a trade down to add more value picks then more ammo to slide around
2nd round - Rice? Johnson?

Then 3-4-5-6-7 lets us get that guard, another CB, an ILB, backup QB, and another RB.

Leaves nearly no gaps.

We need at least 3 more cb either by trade or draft. We have nothing after Newman and Henry.

Where did the four comp picks from next year come from?

This team isn't as complete as people like to think and i wouldn't count on UDFAs as depth/ST.

Minimum of 2 corners are needed. 1 SS type as depth/ST and to potentially start next year.

WR and RB are obvious needs. Definitely need 2 at RB and you could argue that at WR as well. A dynamic returner would be nice.

ILB is a need IMO. Thomas is old, Akin is likely gone, Burnett is a free agent next year (and looking bust-ish) and Carpenter doesn't appear to be able to play.

As far as I'm concerned, this group hasn't shown enough to dismiss the idea of trying to draft upgrades:

Procter, Burnett, Marten, Watkins, Hurd, Austin, Stanback, Deon Anderson, McQuistan, Carpenter, Ball, C. Brown.

I'd also have an eye out for long term replacements for Colombo and Kosier and try to hedge against any of the impending FAs (Newman, Canty, Barber, Hamlin) walking.

Plenty of opportunities in this draft. Turns out well, it says up the team for the next 4-5.

Granted, probably be a bunch of 7ths, and maybe something a tad higher for JJ.

2 RBs to replace Jones and Thompson.

1 FB to replace Hoyte.

1 WR to replace Glenn (likely).

2 CBs to replace Jones and Reeves.

1 SS to replace Davis.

That is just departures.

I'm all for trading away late rounders to move up in the second.

You are right. We must have a RB, 1 FB and 2 CBs. We need depth at RB, S, WR and CB. This is the kind of year to go for impact players.

We definitely need to be adding at LEAST 2 CB this offseason, whether it's Pacman and #22, but even then we should add another.

Newman, Henry, Pacman, #22 pick, Ball, another pick

Teams love to spread us out, need the guys to handle it. Also gives us the peace of mind with Henry and Newman both coming off being nicked up last year.

Pacman and pick #22 fight for nickel job, loser gets dime, can't complain. Ball/Brown/other guy get a lot of ST duty, but some dime work I'm sure. Definitely groom guys there.

That was my 1st thoughts also. Draft at least 2 DB's, pick up a few FA's also. I think we will be DB heavy at the start of camp, and in mimi camps. To find those replaements.

That is the exact same thing I thought a year ago and look what we ended up with.

You didn't get the memo?

Alan Ball is apparently a player. And it has to be true since Newman said it.

So....only 2 CBs are needed.
