How does it get to 16 in the first place?
Really good question. Overcrowded prisons? Makes no damn sense to me at all?

I've heard some say just revoke the license after the third, but if a man is going to drive drunk, he will also drive without a license. Just take him off the street for good before he kills someone. (if he hasn't already)
Completely agree with this. Obviously the threat of getting another DWI wasn't much of deterent.

I personally believe that the first time every low life selfish piece of trash out there gets a DWI, it should be 5 years in prison. Life for the second time. I'm getting very very tired of how socially acceptable (and even encouraged) it is to get behind the wheel drunk. There are numerous ways out there to avoid it, but these people don't care, it's all about them having a good time and not being inconvenienced.

Good. Seems fair to me. Like others, it would have seemed fair afer the 3rd, 4th or 15th time.

I stand by my record, 16 DWIs and no fatalities.

I don't know about life in prison after 1 or 2, but some prison time is reasonable. There are other means that can be implemented to make sure these guys cannot easily get behind the wheel of a car again. Now if they do injure or kill someone, then the life in prison seems very justified.

Of course this specific case is extreme. I should hope that it isn't common to accumulate more than 2 or 3 DWIs before seeing some prison time. and certainly not 16. That is just silly.

Really..so going to a Christmas party having a couple glasses of wine and get pulled over for a busted tailight and blowing a .08 is a low life POS that should go to prison for 5 years?? Better start building a lot more prisons.

Yep. A responsible adult would know better and have a designated driver. I'm all for it. And this country spends a ton of money on stuff we don't need. More prisons would keep more bad guys off the street.

So yeah, let's build more of them.

Absolutely 100% yes. It's the law, don't drink and drive. The fact that there are so many blatant idiots out there that can't seem to grasp that concept absolutely boggles my mind. It's dangerous, no you don't "drive better when you're drunk", no, it's not "ok, just this one time", and no its not ok because "I just live down the street". I have ZERO respect for anyone who has ever drank and drove even once in their lives. That includes my father and numerous other family members, not to mention the vast majority of the American population. If we started locking people up for doing it on their first offense, it would come to a screeching halt.

There are a lot of dangerous things we do each and everyday that are against the law. Speeding is against the law and I guarantee you that you have sped a million times in your life.

Should you have to go to prison for life if you have an accident that hurts someone while speeding?

You know its against the law but you still did it. You had an accident while you were speeding and hurt someone.

LIFE !!!

See how silly that sounds?

Don't get me wrong. Im not taking this guys side, more arguing the fact of life after a dui .08 pull over is a bit fanatically extreme if you ask me.

99 DWI's. That's just the tip of the iceberg. How many times has he beaten up his girlfriend(s)? Kid(s)? POS.

First off, I haven't come close to speeding a million times in my life, and it's probably not even close to a thousand. I'm a very safe driver and have the needle pegged right on the speed limit at all times. I also come to a 100% complete stop at every single stop sign and red light. I follow the laws of the road.

And there is a HUGE difference between speeding and driving drunk. The two are not even remotely comparable. When you are speeding, you are making a choice to speed, or making a choice to ignore your speed, but choosing either way. When you're drunk, you don't know what you're doing, your reaction time is impaired, etc. The chances are extremely high, that you left the house that night knowing full well you were gonna go get drunk then drive home. That's much much much much much worse than being absent minded about your speed for a few seconds and going a few MPH over the speed limit.

Yep, that kind of stuff is happening every day. And what's worse, it's highly likely that the driver left his house knowing full well he was going to be driving drunk that night. It's disgusting.

Really..two glasses of wine and they're a bad guy that needs to go away? 3/4ths of the population would be in prison.

You ever see those breath tests where they give someone multiple beers, test them, then give them a shot of tequila and test them again and the score is LOWER?

Again, YEP. Don't drink and drive, period. End of discussion. How hard is that? There are many many ways to avoid drinking and driving, the vast majority of people choose not to use those ways because it's not as convenient.

And for the record, if you started giving people 5 years for their first offense, people would quit doing it really really quick. So no, 3/4 population would not be in prison.

Are you about 3 inches tall with a British accent?
