A couple roster evaluations I don't understand

Yeah, just like that plan to use a 2nd round draft choice on a backup TE and revolutionize the league with our cutting edge offense!

Oh wait...

You're always upset about something. One can always find fault in hindsight. I'm always fine with the team drafting BPA. If that is a TE so be it. Witten is a pro bowler until one day he wakes up and isn't. We've been lucky with his longevity. I wouldn't bet on that or his health at this age. So again if it's a TE. Draft him. And then pray Witten remains the best all around TE in football.

The Cowboys should be grateful for fans like you.

Never question anything. Just take your money.

Saying that about me makes you look incredibly....silly.

I'm the least likely person here to accept things at face value.

But getting upset at preseason coverage units exposes your lack of football acumen. You should stop.

People seem to hate having quality depth. If a player like Escobar is not playing a lot of snaps, then people get irritated that he was not worth the pick.

It's not as if Escobar has failed. He is a really good receiving TE when given the opportunity. He practically took over the game last year in the home game against the Giants but was not used much afterwards.

I agree. Escobar is a good football player. He should be as much as an isolation jump ball option in the red zone as Dez Bryant is. Escobar has a huge catching radius.

Are you now going to try to claim that these 3 TE's were somehow the BPA? If so, we can have another discussion. This one about firing your scouting dept.

I think people look "silly" when they're either too lazy or not smart enough to think for themselves and blindly buy whatever someone wants to sell them. But then again, that's why we've got the have's and have not's of the world.

I'm the least likely person here to accept things at face value.

Couldn't prove that around here..

Whereas "Go Cowboys!" "Everything is perfect!" "Check your brain at the door!" Makes you look truly insightful...

And some people find a silver lining in every mistake.

How would Le'Veon Bell look right about now instead of the backup TE we're still trying to figure out how to get on the field?

I've finally learned what to expect at cutdown date.

Rule 1. Cowboys will keep young OL and DL, above young WR CB safeties. .. Big bodies that can play are harder to come by than the little cats. ... There is usually an outlier big body who makes it and we are all agog, too good to cut, developmental type.
Rule 2. Cowboys won't cut any of the new draft picks unless a guy is an abject failure.

If you cut any of Gibson, Bishop, Coleman, Russell, Gardner, or Whitehead .. Who would other teams be least interested in? ...

Whitehead. .. Lucky will make our PS and be there in case Beez gets nicked up. Unless Lucky goes 105 yd KO return or something tonite. .. Heck McDermott may be the sleeper and may make the 53, again per my Rule 1 above.

Remember how good Sterling Moore always looked in preseason? .. The young vet DB whose name I forget of 5-6 years ago who for two preseasons running was said to have played the best in preseason (dang can't remember his name) but he got cut per Rule 1. .. I would have predicted White to be cut, until Scandrick went down.

I firmly believe that more than any recent player I can think of, Lucky Whitehead holds his own fate in his hands. I think it's sink or swim time for him and expect him to get a lot of work tonight. If he shows well, he makes the team and if he doesn't, the team will be scouring cut downs for a replacement.

You can go in a circle with the "what if" game for all teams with multiple picks.

You can look at most really successful draft picks and find players drafted before them that were not as good.

All teams passed on Bell in the 1st round and some more passed on him in the 2nd.

And you can also try to absolve your favorite team of ever making mistakes.

Doesn't make it so.

Jimmy cut two 3rd round picks in training camp. I don't think he ever thought about those players again. He was too busy winning Super Bowls.

All teams make mistakes or non-optimal draft picks.

Actually, Johnson cut four third rounders in camp: Rhondy Weston, James Richards, James Brown and Mike Middleton.

Easier to forget about missed 3rd rounders when you're dealing with 12-15 draft picks in total, isn't it?

And I'm not saying that nobody makes them, but I'm glad when it's other teams doing it. But I don't cover my eyes or gloss over it when it's the Cowboys doing it either.

The Fasano and Bennett picks weren't under the current coaching/scouting regime.

I don't like to talk about those less fortunate or talk about myself. But i'm well off from a poor family. So yeah I know what it takes to succeed.

Whereas "Go Cowboys!" "Everything is perfect!" "Check your brain at the door!" Makes you look truly insightful...

Again, I don't think many would classify me that way. But it must be fun arguing against a false narrative.

I'm going to claim that that is how the Cowboys generally draft (with obvious exceptions).

Bennett took a while but he's developed into a great player. I'm hoping Escobar does the same.

Garrett was here for the Bennett pick at least as far as I know. But I'm not sure on the scouts. I just hate that repeated move and poor return on investment.

Sure but he was the OC, Wade was the HC, and I am Stephen has been more involved in these Garrett years than he had been previously. McClay was not in his role either.

Fasano was a decade ago.

Which I think those multiple 2nd tight ends were - exceptions. The team had a vision for a two-TE offense, invested multiple second round picks in it, but never made it work and therefore never got an adequate return on the draft investment.

Bennett took a while but he's developed into a great player. I'm hoping Escobar does the same.

I think all three are good players. It's not an indictment of any of their abilities. It's an indictment of investing a second round pick and not getting an adequate on-field return, while there were better players and bigger needs which could have been filled. Three times.
