A Dak thread

There is enough film to show his footwork is causing him more problems this year than last.

This often happens when a QB goes into an offseason focusing on improving one part of his game, that another part starts to regress. Same thing happened to Blake Bortles last year. If I remember correctly, Dak spent most of the offseason working on his throwing mechanics - the issue here is, if the footwork is gone, this impacts the throwing as well.

He'll need to be getting back to basics. Dak is even admitting his footwork is a problem, I don't know what more you need. Dak can "disagree" all he wants while in the same breath saying how his footwork is causing him problems.
I’ll give it to you, his foot work may be a little off at times from last year, but I would not characterize it as a problem. His foot work is a minor issue compared to the struggles of the O line earlier this year, the vanilla game plans we to often have, and the non existent in game adjustments( see Atlanta JAG’s run around our backup tackles all game long) by our head coach.

Footwork is never a "minor issue" for a QB - same as throwing mechanics. These are fundamentals and can impact accuracy a great deal.

You can talk about players around them and their own personal struggles, it doesn't take away the struggles of Dak Prescott.

Will have to agree to disagree. I think his footwork is a minor issue and his struggles are minor compared to others on this team. Look at the coaching staff if you want to talk about struggling. This coaching staff struggles with consistently developing good game plans( getting blown out 3 games in a row is more on the coaching than the players, especially the Atlanta fiasco). In game adjustments and clock management are major issues with this staff. Can we stop talking about Dak’s minor imperfections when we have a coaching staff with major imperfections. With this coaching staff our team has to be so much more talented than the other teams to win consistently. Like I’ve said before, if Belicheat was coaching our team we would most likely have at least 2 more wins.

Dallas's scheme notoriously doesn't allow for RAC. Dak's yardage total would be a lot higher if it was designed to yield RAC, ala Bill Walsh's west coast offense. The WR's routes, aside from Beasly, usually end with the receiver coming towards the ball by design virtually negating any possible RAC. Witten is where RAC goes to die. At this point in his career you can essentially spot the ball where Witten has the reception. Also not having a consistent deep threat limits Dak's deep passing game. Butler has been disappointing in that regard.

The NYG game was more of the law of averages balancing out and that RAC has to happen at some point.

That's a myth. We are one of the worst teams when it comes to YAC. We are 29th in the league. Only the Titans, the Bears and the Bills are worse than us.

Except for the last game, how many times have you seen our receivers get any yards after the catch?

Witt goes down immediately after the catch. Our WRs don't get any separation so they have a defender on them immediate after they catch the ball.

Only time we get a big YAC play is when Zeke takes a screen for a long gain. I think we had one this year. That's about it.

That doesn't invalidate what I said. I said when Dak is on, his long completions are actually shorter ones turned into bigger gains. That doesn't mean we are getting mad YAC.

If what you think is true, we won't be 4th worst team when it comes to YAC. I'm not talking about just being average to below average. We are at the bottom when it comes to YAC.

No, it just means that we aren't getting YAC. Just because Dak's longer completions seem to be the result of YACs doesn't mean that we are racking UP the YAC. Simply because there's not too many long completions. It's not really that tough to realize how the two statements can coexist.

Dak is 17th in total yards yet we are 28th in YAC this year. If what you are assuming is true, those two ranking should be closer.

Terrible compared to last years great season. Dak, with his struggles, is still completing 63%, with a qb rating of 91.6. Not great, but I wouldn't say terrible.
91.6 for a 2nd yr QB is pretty excellent, unfortunately he had a 4 game stretch where he was absolutely putrid and I'm still not convinced he has found his groove yet. These last remaining 3 games will tell a lot.
