A few interview nuggets from Overshown

I am rooting for O like crazy, love everything about the guy and we can certainly use him for so many reasons.

I just don't see how you can come back from a torn ACL, PCL and MCL in 11 months and play anywhere close to your normal self.

Next year seems more realistic.

I hope I am completely wrong and would love to eat crow on this one, just don't see it.

In 1989, Michael Irvin tore his ACL in October. He came back in 1990, starting in the 5th game. He came back bigger, faster than before ( improved 40 yard time) and averaged 20.7 yards per catch.

The next year he caught 93 passes for 1523 yards establishing himself as a top three WR in the NFL. The rest is history.

It’s not about this year anything he does is bonus this year. Most importantly let’s see if his body can hold up.

Just play hard and smart. Let's see what happens. Even if we don't win a lot of games , I need to see no quit and hard-nosed play.

He loves football and the Cowboys are lucky to have him. The haters crap on him because of his injuries not even giving him a chance.
Who is hating on him? Find me one person on here who doesn't want him to succeed? Who doesn't want to see him play? A;ll I can find is proceed with caution, and let him get going........he literally ripped apart his leg in every way possible last year, why wouldn't a true fan of this team not want to see him heel properly? Man you are too much

This is an unequal equivalent counterpoint per the two players' respective injuries.

A more equal comparison for Michael Irvin's ACL injury would be Trevon Diggs. On the other hand, a more accurate Overshown ACL/MCL/PCL injury comparison would be Willis McGahee.

Per a 2017 study (link/The Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine):
  • Athletes with ACL/MCL injuries were more likely to return to prior performance levels 46% vs 18% compared to those with ACL and PCL/LCL injuries (p < .001).
  • The RTP rate for athletes with multi-ligament knee injuries is significantly less than the RTP rate for athletes with isolated ACL tears.
Quality of treatment, optimum rehabilitation, and an athlete's unique recovery capability are the keys to how well anyone transitions back into active playing time. The best, hopeful outlook is for Overshown's overall situation to be more like Irvin's. That said, it is equally important to consider that what Overshown's knee has gone through is not the same as what Irvin's knee sustained.

There is nothing wrong with wishful thinking. Overshown deserves the best outcome. There is nothing wrong with fully evaluating what he must overcome as well.

Sean Lee was a great player
great team mate and great person
but his body simply could not hold up to the NFL

now maybe Demarion has just had really bad luck but he is not really big enough to take the beating of the way he plays.
Unless he has gotten bigger and stronger, the likelihood of him lasting is not good
