There is an old saying that if you forget history, you are doomed to repeat it...

  • Week after week, countless NFL teams repeat history by installing the prevent defense only to lose via the soft zone. We were no different last night.
  • We dominated this game outside of three plays. The two TD's and the Brunell run on third and long.
  • Drew Bledsoe still has it.
  • Flozell is getting an unfair rep as a "holder". Both of those calls against him were very questionable. That being said, he needs to be extra careful.
  • Was Cortez first FG a miss? it looked like it went straight over the left goal post and they only showed it once. It could have been a bad angle for me.
  • San Francisco is in trouble next week. A win last night could have made Dallas a bit complacent. This "defeat snatched from the jaws of victory" last night should teach Dallas to finish games.
  • This team is pretty solid on defense/offense.
  • Julius would have had around 100 yards had not a few runs been called back.
  • Tyson Thompson needs more touches
  • This team will be a tough opponent for any team later this year.
  • We have things to work on, but we are going in the right direction.
  • Don't take this defeat too hard, we did the same thing to them in the second game last year. It's ONE loss.
  • Overall Payton did a good job of calling plays, but like the rooks, he will make some mistakes and needs experience as well.
  • I try very much to be a realist and I really like the direction this team is moving in.
It's so nice when the adults decide to post. :bravo:

I tried looking at the site last night, but the whining and moaning from the lurker contingent was too much to bear. They come out of the woodwork like Catholics on Christmas.

I was very very bitter about the end of the game last night, but really there are some good things to take away from that game. I thought the game-plan and execution were very solid -- B to B+ material -- right up until those final minutes where the team and coaches checked out and earned a solid "F".

We played a conservative game plan and it worked to perfection until the very end.

It's not often that you have a game where you have 7 or 8 plays, any ONE of which are executed differently, will salt away the game. But that was very true for this game.

Anyway, time to move on. We've won plenty of games like this over the recent years against the Skins and we will win plenty more in the future.

This is a short week, so the team needs to put this behind them and focus on the Niners.

This is a good team and it needs to forget about this game and move on. The NFC is very weak, and there's no reason we shouldn't make the playoffs.

Thanks for the post Trickblue. It's good to read that some still have perspective... although I could have guessed which posters would still be grounded.

Agree with most of this; Zimmer and BP made some bad personel calls late in the game- not making sure Moss was covered the critical mistake. Some play calling was bad as well. The holding thing on the Hotel has to be addressed- he needs to be put on the rack. But the O line as a whole played better. We made progress in several areas- but still lost. THAT hurts.

This loss will enlighten the coaches to change their nickle philosophy late in the game. We need to match up our CB on WR. I know why Newman is in the slot but our top two CB should be like glues to opponents top WRs esp late in the game instead of Newman on their TE or 4th WR in the slot. Perhaps, Gibbs caught Parcelll with his pants down.

Good post trick...
But I have to add, you CAN"T allow the other teams fastest WR to run down the field unchecked...

You CAN'T allow a teams QB to take all the time for that play to develop TWICE...

We had much better planned blitzes then in the past early on...Stunts WERE working, then we go passive arse CRAP again & LOSE...

The 4th 1/4 saw almost all JUST 4 man pass rushing leaving NO doubt where our rush was coming from....

Ware left almost all game to battle against a NFL Vet as a DE...WRONG!

We had old man brunell on the ropes & let him "Rope a DOPE" & knock us out!

I don't know if the blame goes on zimmy or Parcells, but thats not effective or well coached at all on D...

But as Parcells says, the offense had a chance(s) to ice the game too...

I also agree, Thompson should have gotten some carries wide when their D was gassed...

Excelllent post Trickblue. I feel the same way about the team and was guilty of looking ahead on the schedule and putting Dallas at 2-0 after Roy's sack...guess the games really are never over.

I was also questioning the missed fieldgoal and wanted another view of it, it reminded me of that one in college a few years ago that was good and called no-good.

I was VERY happy with the offense, the line most of all. Bledsoe had all day to throw the ball. My only complaint was that they did not take more shots down the field before it was too late to try to get the running game freed up a bit.

I laughed to myself when the skins scored their first TD thinking we could never just win one with ease and then that they were going to turn it one us for once. I then knew it was going to happen when Flozzel's iffy holding call negated a key first down and they got the ball back with that much time.

We stole one that they dominated last year and they stole it right back this year. We get another shot at them and still have 14 games left in the season.

I think this will be a key game that Parcells will remind them of all season to challenge them to stay sharp until the final gun. Hopefully the team will show heart after this one and not fold like they did after the Steelers game last year.

My breakdown is as follows:

We played a good game. Not great, but good.
We clearly dominated the game aside from 2 blown plays.
They did not have one sack, one INT, one fumble... nothing.
I usually don't mention officiating but we got the shaft on the Adams holding penalty and a huge roughing the passer call when they were throwing out of their endzone.
We shoulda ran more towards the end of the game.
Cortez sucks... cut him now.

When you only score 13 points against anybody it's hard to say you dominated the game. Your defense played a solid game against a weak offence. The Commanders may not have had a sack or a turnover, but, other than one big play they kept the Cowboy offence in check. This Commander defense is a solid unit that played well enough to keep it within reach and give the Commanders a chance to win.

Funny. I hear Commanders fans here in DC saying they dominated the Bears 9-7.

I'm not in DC. I saw the game against the Bears. Our offense stunk and our defense won the game against the Bears.
