A Football Life: The Great Wall of Dallas

Manly tears have been shed

Funniest moment of the show was hearing Garrett talk about imposing their will on the opponent and demoralizing them. Hmmmmm....

I've already posted on the NFL's facebook page promoting this piece. Of course, 90% of the people there aren't posting anything other than the usual "If Barry had" or "Barry could have" nonsense. I'm really excited to see this. I was too young to understand the game when Emmitt was in his prime, so I can't wait to make up for that lost time. Should be something special.

I wish they would do an entire series on all aspects of the 90s team. Then release it on blu ray

Edit - looks like amazon has a football life dvds for sale.

What an incredible walk down memory lane. I'm glad I recorded it. I may never delete that one.

Big Nasty!

I heard the mention that they were being called the great wall of Dallas. I don't remember ever hearing that term before this show. Is it just me or did I miss something?

Great show. I only wish it were 3 hours long. I tried explaining to my son what we were watching and that some how some way we would be that good again. And we would watch the Super Bowl together and celebrate like he has never seen a celebration before in his life when our Cowboys are once again World Champions. The look in his eyes........priceless. I beg of you Jerry........

Most of that stuff E and Gogan pulled wouldn't be allowed in today's NFL, but they were a plain nasty group.

Erik Williams in his prime was probably the most intimidating left tackle I have ever seen. Sad that his bust will never be in Canton because of a very stupid decision.

He played right tackle.

As Cowboys fans, we have truly been able to enjoy an embarrassment of riches in terms of football greatness — Wall of Dallas (Greatest OL ever), two HOF QBs and RBs, Doomsday I and II, GREAT WRs, LBs, DLs, HOF Coach, 5 Championships, etc.

Truthfully, it makes me a bit sad for the young Cowboys fans (25 and younger), as all they hear are stories and have actually seen little success on the field, and it makes me long for mega-success again.

This was pretty good.
Man just watching this makes me realize how much I miss those days.

You win with dogs not good guys. The reason i love seeing teams like Seattle SF & B-More(Ray Lewis Era) is the fact that they have guys who want to punch you in the mouth, Watching this and seeing how nasty our line was shows exactly what football is all about and that's smash mouth kick you in the face attitude, players like Richard Sherman get a lot of heat but at least he backs it up and isn't trying to be Mr. Goodie 2 Shoes.

I remember watching that '95 NFC championship thinking how a cheap nasty SOB ERIK was playing that day. That hit on Juric was cheap, none the less I was one happy poke fan.

One important point made in the segment after the show was the fact it took time for them to gel and become dominant. I say Dallas needs to draft a RG and RT and they could become dominant once again because I REALLY like the left side with Smith, Leary and Frederick!

That was great wasn't it? It was awesome to watch those guys dominate. I hadn't watched any 90's Cowboys stuff in a while and that really reminded me how lucky many of us were to have watched those teams. I wish we had done a better job of putting a line together over the past 7 years. I could only imagine what Romo, Witten and company could have done behind a really good offensive line. I'm not even talking about all-time great like the 90's OL, just good to very good. Those gaping holes Emmitt ran through, the time Aikman had to pass, it was incredible.
Well, at least we've started to build something on the OL with Smith and Frederick. The OL played very well last game and, overall, they're pretty young. Hopefully, they continue to develop and play well down the stretch.
