NFC East Offseason Discussion: Dallas Cowboys
They have potential... Danthebigbluefan : 7/7/2009 4:42 pm

Just like a lot of teams do. But I just never saw Dallas as a true contender for one reason. They are one dimensional. They do not have the ability to break games open. Sure, a couple of years back everyone was drooling over Marion Barber, and T.O. with Whitten as targets for Romo. But to be honest, outside of Felix Jones, I don't see them having drafted very well in terms of depth the past few years at all. Granted, a lot of that is because they (Jones) don't seem to put a lot of emphasis on the draft and attack free agency a lot more. I'm going to be honest and say that Romo is a decent QB. But this is the year where Romo either becomes what everyone in Dallas expected him to be, or this is the year they get the forgone conclusion a lot of Giants fans are going to love to hear. He just isn't THAT QB. He's not Eli. He doesn't really impress me all that much. Eli can with games, and he can win them when they count, when the Giants are down and out, and when the pressure is on. The good quarterbacks in history and in the league right now do those things. It's the same story with Drew Brees. When Romo was the best QB in the league (what a joke) in most opinions, what was he really doing? He was scrambling. Well, sooner or later you need to sit in the pocket and move the ball. Teams eventually keyed their defense on Barber and not overpursuing Romo; which in turn made him beat them with his arm and the WR's. Well we all know how that has gone. Not well. Every team in the NFC East now knows how to beat Dallas. They need to get creative and change their offensive strategy or it's going to be more of the same. The good news is they do have depth at HB and Barber can probably play a full season because of that. But the bad news is their defense is pretty depleted. They don't have depth at WR. And their O-line can't pass protect. Everyone thought they were this dominant group of guys, but how the hell do you call dominance your QB running for his life and extending the play?? Of course a WR is going to get open at some point during a 15 second play! I think Phillips is an idiot and has absolutely 0 control over his players. He was horrible in Buffalo as a HC. He's been a laugh to me in Dallas. At times he almost looks dumbfounded. Garrett is a good OC, but again, what does he have to work with? The true test of that offense is going to be whether they can play smash-mouth football, abuse and wear down defenses with Barber, and open up the play-action for Romo. Sounds familiar doesn't it? The only problem is, like I said, that defense is nowhere near what it was a few years ago. Their defensive backfield is very suspect and the strength of that defense which has been their linemen and backers are now very lacking in the depth department. I see them finishing dead last in the NFC East. Phillips fired (by week 10 but I'm just being arrogant there). And a lot of mayhem and boo birds coming about late season directed at ol' Tony. And you know what, I'm going to love every minute of it. Eat **** Dallas.

Much to my chagrin, I missed that typo. Otherwise I would've stopped reading there too.

we are arguably more talented then the team that beat the giants twice in their sb year. Eli is what? better then Romo? how many coaches would say that.
Even if you were generous and said they were equal, who makes way more plays?
Our secondary is depleted? since when? Our O line is good at pass blocking- as strahan and company can testify.
I guess I could go on but why bother

I stopped reading after the Just like most teams do, or whatever. It was clear, immediately, that this was going to be one of those, we'll give you a thread title where it sounds like we're going to be respectful and give an honest opinion on how things could go, and then quickly turned into a 'but now that you've clicked the thread you're actually going to read about how I think you have no real shot at all.'

How can anything at all be "one dimensional"? two or three...those are your choices...or a fourth if you have certain religious views.
