when someone of notoriety makes a comment.....and then later recants it or makes a public apology.

I think a person should be allowed to speak his/her mind honestly. I think a person should be able to answer a question, without having to be so PC.

I am almost 100% certain that when someone apologizes after these comments, there is little to no sincerity in it. The person has not changed points of view nor is the apology worth a hill of beans.

The sad thing is, the same public that ridicules the comments spoken under the first amendment, also except a hollow, superficial apology.

The way I see it, if you don't want to be ridiculed for your stance on a certain topic, don't say a word. However, if you do speak your mind, simply own up to it and stick by your guns. Do not waiver on your stance or give a bogus apology.

BTW....this thread came to me as I was reading about the Skins players apologizing for Portis and bashing him for his comments.

While I may not agree with his comments, he has his view on things, and I can respect the sincerity in his opinion.

Well the apology usually has to do with money. "Oh wait, you're pulling my show . . . uh, what I said was stupid. I'm sincerely sorry."

Left-lane drivers...

Yeah. I'll be cruising down the highway and there'll be a group ahead of me stuck because someone's driving 60 in the left lane.

You could fill up a whole 'nother forum with driving pet peeves, once you get people started.

It bugs me how many people think that freedom of speech is supposed to protect them from the court of public opinion.

Kills me as well. People don't realize you can say what ever you want, problem is if you are willing to live with the consequences after you say it.

This is the first lesson a wise man learns from his wife or girl friend.
