A.J Hawk released?

I still maintain that at the time, Carp seemed a very solid and safe pick. There certainly were scouts who claimed he'd be a better pro than Hawk - IIRC the board seemed to be most upset about not getting Manny Lawson instead (although that move would have moved Ware to the other side -- i.e., terrible idea)

What?

Hawk hasnt been #5 overall pick good, but he's hardly an "utter flop"

he's just been overshadowed by clay matthews.

You gotta love when these "experts" come on here and say no way, or its not going to happen, even when they have no idea

A guy that is drafted at #5 and has never been better than average is at the least very disapointing, and frankly is close to being considered a bust. When you think of how much money they spent and cap space used, he was a bust.

Wouldnt be a total shock if they cut him or tried to move him after a CBA gets done. He really doesnt fit the 3-4. Barnett will be back from injur and the guy who replaced Barnett digned a longterm deal late in the season, they like him alot.

He's never been worthy of where he was picked at. I wouldnt class him a bust, but he's played more like a 2nd or 3rd rd guy, not a top 5 pick.

GB talked of trading him before last season. He had a few good years there at first, but his play has declined and my Packer friends say he is average at best.

I guess a superbowl win erases everything in people's minds. Wasn't this guy benched during the season until Barnett got injured?

It was tough on him being drafted into a 4-3 system and now being in 3-4 i imagine

They would be dumb to release him, and we would be smart to sign him immediately.

Hawk has been a bust. Talk to any green bay fan. You guys that want him signed are thinking of his college days

people claimed that Carp benefited from playing next to Hawk. maybe that went both ways- the only reason they both looked good was playing next to each other.

I don't know, Hawk was pretty good as an outside LB in a 4-3. He has a couple 'down' seasons in 2008 and 2009 (less than 100 tackle seasons). From what I read he had to take over for the last 7 games at inside LB in 2008 and then was moved to inside in 2009 with the switch to 3-4.

This past year he has pretty decent stats, led the team in tackles, 3rd in INT.

Heck, he had almost as many tackles in his rookie year as Carp does for a career. Cowboy nation would have been elated had Carp had the same stats as Hawk for his career.

Can't see why GB wouldn't want him back.

That being said, I don't want the Cowboys to get him. Inside LB seems less of a concern to me than other postions.
