A.J. Hawk released

Here's a question for those who simply know Hawk's name but don't really know how productive he's been:

Would Hawk start ahead of Brady James and Brooking/Lee?

I haven't seen anything from him to suggest that he would.

He is solid. Brooking is one of the worst starting ILBs in the league at this point, so yeah, he'd be an improvement.

Okay, I saw that his salary was 10 million dollars. This is what the Packers paid for with that salary.

16 Games Played
15 Starts
1/2 Sack
3 Interceptions
10 Passes Defended
0 Forced Fumbles
1 Fumble Recovery
71 Tackles
39 Assists

This is what some are clamoring for Jerry to drop a lot of coin on?

Oh, and he played LILB which is where Bradie plays. Not Brooking.

If the Cowboys were to sign Asomugha, Hawk, and O.J. Atogwe...I'll prepare Ribeye for the upcoming draft! And throw in scalloped potatoes and grilled pineapple/shrimp....That would pretty well open things completely up and turn the corner for the defense.

Muammar...that you?

ESPN report the Packers released A.J Hawk. This would be a great pick up and addition to the D for Dallas if it were to happen?

This is not a surprise. Hawk is not much more than average, if that and probably doesnt fit the 3-4 scheme either. The Packers are getting Nick Barnett back from injury (better player than Hawk) and just signed the guy who replaced Barnett this yr to a longterm deal (also better than Hawk)

His level of play has never justified the spot he was drafted at, nor the money he was making.

Cant say I'd be overly excited about adding him.

If I didn't have a final exam the day after the 1st round of the draft, I would be touching down in San Antonio around 4PM on the 28th of April.

What do yall think about this letting Keith Brooking go, and signing A.J. Hawk? Since the Packers have released him. He would be a great fit for our 3-4 defense.

Here's a shocker: Packers cut LB A.J. Hawk today.

Should we have interest?

yes for sure yes, he can play either ILB spot and take over for James

He should be a fir sure guy we should try and get

I'm fer it! Get younger, and bring in someone with a Championship under their belt. We need some guys who have been there done that, to help the rest of the club understand what it takes to get over the hump.

I don't think Lee can play the SILB well enough. He's not capable of taking on guards. He needs to be covered as much as possible.

Hawk is not an option here. He's a Will.

Until Nick Barnett went down this year, Hawk was at best average and most of the time even worse. He did not even play the first game of the year against Philly. And until Hawk and Chillar got hurt, he would play sparingly. He just was not that productive. When Barnett got hurt, Hawks resonsibiltiy changed. He was responsible for making the defense calls and adjustments and he flourised. He never will be a difference maker but he did play his best ball when he stayed on the field. I hope they sign him back but for 10 million, it was an easy call. You are not getting a difference maker. Just a good football player. Ted probably wants to keep him for his reliablitiy and leadership more than anything else.

AJ Hawk can play the SILB spot no problem, he is an upgrade over James

And no, we dont need to sign him.

why, James is in his last year and has never been better than average.
Release James and sign Hawk

So you want to replace one average guy with another average guy.

I would rather replace a average guy who is older with a above average guy that is younger and has won a superbowl.

I don't disagree with you, but I do think this is a tire worth kicking. I wouldn't jump to sign him or anything... but, he has not been a bust. Worth $10M? Not even close. But surely most (if not all) of the league realizes that by now. If GB ticks him off enough in these "continued discussions" they are having, then his price tag may come within reason. I don't think Dallas is going to spend 1st or 2nd on a ILB, so... I would kick the tires. He seems to have the "want to" that Ryan talks about, and he has been relatively healthy (I think, haven't looked).
