Here's a shocker: Packers cut LB A.J. Hawk today.

Should we have interest?

He's not on a jet flying into Dallas right now?

They should be interested in any good young player, but affordability is always going to be the biggest issue weighted with need.

The Cowboys and Packers are #1 and #2 respectively in the size of their player salaries. If and when a cap is put back in place, both of these teams are going to have to do a fair amount of restructuring, cutting, etc

Wow just Wow

Is it that much of a surprise?

Hawk is an above average 3-4 ILB, but not a difference maker. The Packers best ILB is Bishop who they just signed to a 4 year big money contract and they have their former #1 draft pick ILB Nick Barnett coming back off of IR (broke his wrist last season).

Hawk was due $10m this season...

He's a good player but not worth the $10M he was due this year. I guess he and the Packers couldn't come to terms on a deal to reduce his salary.

Tells the tale. Both first rd picks from OSU are now gone from the teams they were drafted by- both released. Obviously GB got more out of theirs; but neither lived up to their draft status.

A young proven inside 3/4 middle LB. we need to go out and get this guy now.it's an upgrade over Brooking and James in my opinion. that would give us he and sean Lee inside. two young guys still with upside.i dont want to hear we dont need anybody like i heard last off season.

The shocking part is how hyped he was coming out of college. I thought this guy was going to be a beast, and he was a decent prospect. That said its not everyday a young player like this is just cut after a Superbowl winning season.

I agree with you.JJ needs to make this happen before he is snatched up by another team.

Jerry must get off this we dont need anybody in Free-agency kick. Alan Ball proved last year that we better start getting some proven players. instead trying to do it on the cheap.Brooking is finished. and Brady James is not much better. we can do better than James.spend some money on proven players Jerry.

Packers clearing space for Asomugha.

If the Cowboys were to sign Asomugha, Hawk, and O.J. Atogwe...I'll prepare Ribeye for the upcoming draft! And throw in scalloped potatoes and grilled pineapple/shrimp....That would pretty well open things completely up and turn the corner for the defense.

And if frogs had wings...

Or your aunt had.... nevermind.

No way we sign all 3 of those guys, and its not likely that we sign any of them. Atogwe maybe, he should come cheapest...

Here's a question for those who simply know Hawk's name but don't really know how productive he's been:

Would Hawk start ahead of Brady James and Brooking/Lee?

I haven't seen anything from him to suggest that he would.

Hawk is actually a pretty good player, not great, but good. He was just completely overhyped coming out of Ohio State during a time when it was cliche' to call every athletic white linebacker the next "Brian Ulracher."

I do think Hawk could take over Brookings spot while Lee continues to be groomed for James spot.

Having said all that, we have much bigger needs and I don't forsee this happening at all.
