What we have here is a 4-3 basic D and a standard 2 WR, 1 TE set with two Backs in a split backfield. The numbers indicate Dallas Cowboys.

CB...........................FS.............................SS...................CB

84......................76...63...65...70...75...82...........................11

Hopefully you are with me so far. Now let's create a very serious matchup problem for the Defense with only one move.

CB...........................FS.............................SS...................CB

Felix Jones goes in motion to the LOS and the Z position, or slot.

Obviously the SOLB now has containment on Jason Witten. Before he could have freed him to a SS and single coverage. Now he has no choice.

The LCB now has single coverage on Roy Williams.

Felix Jones now has single coverage by a Strong Safety.

I believe this move would also pull the FS into the Strong side of the field leaving single coverage out wide on Crayton's side of the field.

Now, each of those players have s decided advantage over their Defensive counterparts. Simply put they are forced to single cover 4 men or drop LBs and D-linemen into coverage.

What about the Barberian you ask? I am glad you did. The ball is snapped, Bigg pulls to his left and runs a lead block on a sweep left for Barber. Look at how much open space there potentially is.

If that doesn't make you salivate then you simply aren't hungry enough for the season to approach.

Edit:

dcfanatic created a graphic for you to see the sweep and how it might look.

Thanks DC.

well atleast we know a candidate to replace Coach Tecmo if he can't get his stuff right.

That's awesome Hos! I envision a lot of stuff like that, hopefully so does Garrett.

No, I'd rather Jones coming out of the backfield, not in the slot. I'd rather Stanback to step up or another quick speedy receiver in the slot. That's why I wanted a Terry Glenn type receiver drafted for the last three years. After Stanback, we don't really have a receiver with that ability.

Hos, sub in 80 for 84 and then line him up tight or wide and we create even more match-up problems.

It's two weeks till training camp and four weeks till the first preseason game.

I'm salivating.

We're gonna be good this yr people.

That could actually make me horny.

You see where I am going with this don't you?

Or, they could just blitz 2 extra LBs and put Romo in a bad spot because TO is still running 60 yards down the field, as well as the other WRs.

Looking at this though, isn't it the same formation that got Jason Witten a TD, courtesy of Felix Jones in the first skins game?

With Felix and Bennett split out wide..WOW Orgasm central!! I agree with Dblair, we are really going to surprise the haters and doubters this year. Felix can become a superstar this year. No doubt. I think Garrett comes back strong and shakes away that awful year last year. Can't wait!

No, no, no. You're making the assumption that everyone (or most everyone) will be healthy and thus your scenarios are too weak. After all, Terrell Owens isn't in the mix.

Excellent post, Hos. ;)

as long as Jason Garrett expands his playbook... a Page 2 perhaps?

This is why you aren't a GM or OC in the NFL.

Yeah Hos I was going to suggest 80 in for 84 with 84 moving to the 28 spot and 28 in the backfield. It puts Barber on the bench but only on 2nd and long :)

The versatility of the RBs and TEs is the element that gives this offense "star power" this season.

That diversity sets this offense apart from any other offense in the league IMO.

Hos is hitting the nail on the head with his breakdown, and how that diversity gives defenses something they havent seen.... much of.

This offense has that one element in its pocket, and its uncomparable to any other team in the league.
