I don't see how making it to the SB eliminates Garret's past and turns him into a highly sought after coach. Not a lot of history of success where you could say, yeah, he finally made it over the top.
So take away everybody's hero , Belicheck, and start listing the amazing coaches that would put us in a SB????
MOst of the guys on your list have probably won A SB, not multiple.
Ill take a premtive strike on possible candidates you may bring up.
Tomlin.... Barry Switzer? won aSB with Cowher's team. Hasnt done jack since and had possibly the top WR and RB in their prime on the same team with a HOF QB, and he has won(who couldnt have won at the same pace as Tomlin with those teams) and could basically said to have underacheived, big time. BUt he looks tough.
Carrol...... He came in, hit the jackpot with a young QB, had a GREAT defense and won a SB, could have won 2. He definitely benefitted from that QB not being a ME guy. He got the full benefit of a QB in his first contract. Once they had to pay the qb real money, they just dropped off the face of the earth as far as being a legit SB team. Seahawks are now just like everyone else. So do you see that team with the great Carrol winning another SB anytime soon???????????
Andy Reid Had a HOF qb in philly and a super talented team........ 0 super bowls. Now in KC, he hit the absolute jackpot (was it his doing to get mahomes? or someone else... i seriously dont know) So, having a qb that had one of the greatest individual seasons in the history of the nfl, they still didnt make the SB. Andy Reid, in all his greatness and his many years as a head coach, still has the same number of SB wins as JG.
SEan Payton Has basically had a HOF QB during his entire run. Has a SB win, and then his team dropped off the planet and was not even a top 10 team. They are back in the mix now.... but again, with that GREAT qb, he has 1 sb win. Does that make you GREAT? Cant wait to see the Saints after the great Drew Brees hangs them up.
Mike McCarthy... please..... had 2 of the greatest QBs to play the game his ENTIRE coaching career in GB, and once again, he has ONE SB. Having the QBs he has had alone means his team would be in the upper echelon of the league. What did he do to take them from upper echelon to great? nothing. 1 SB.... does that make him great?
So lets replace JG for what? the sake of replacing him? How many teams replace coaches EVERY YEAR. What 25% of the coaches get fired each season, and teams stay right where they were until the normal progression of things takes place. Until teams get a LEGIT QB, they will just stay mediocre. Typically, a new coach gets the new qb, and then all of the sudden when the QB takes off, that new coach gets to ride the wave....... look at my list, and all of those coaches are examples of riding the wave.
Take any of those coaches on the above list in place them in Miami... you telling me the Dolphins are in the SB?
