Just draft playmakers:

1) OLB Von Miller 6'3 240 4.5 - Rob Ryan will love his versatility & prod

2) DL Stephen Paea 6'1 311 4.9 - Injury drops this top 15 talent to 2nd

3) ILB Mark Herzlich 6'4 245 4.7 - Already a Rob Ryan favorite, tough & smart

4) SS Ahmad Black 5'9 185 4.5 - drops due to size, but guy just makes plays

5) OG/C John Moffit 6'3 310 5.2 - pit bull, but technique/body is sloppy

6) OT Chris Hairston 6'7 335 5.18 - underrated leader & mauler

7) FS Mark LeGree 6'0 211 4.5 - tiny school but pure playmaker

John Motfitt is gunna rise come draftday. Don't see him falling to the 5th at all.

I'm not gunna lie, I am clueless about Von Miller. Dunno if this guy will be the next sideline to sideline LB or the next Vernon Gholston. I say we take the risk and go for gold.

Would not be surprised if that happens but I think the reverse occurs. Moffitt shines in team drills. Not much of that going to happen after the all star games. Moffitt will not test well individually and he just looks sloppy and soft. But the guy is a brute if they just go on game tape. The combine and pro days will hinder, not help him IMO.

Von Millers greatest asset is his speed and quickness. After that, I'm just not real high on him. (maybe in a year or two) Granted, those are great things to have, but he would be a HUGE liability in the run game playing OLB. Especially at 237lbs. That is a long way from 255lbs which is probably minimum weight you should be to play OLB. Even if he gets bigger, I'm still not sure he will be a great run stopper.

Hell, early on, I'm not sure 237lbs will do much as a pass rusher either. If a tackle gets his hands on him, consider him planted. He would literally have to beat the tackle on the edge without getting touched. That is a bit harder to do in the NFL than in college. (he has the speed and quickness to do it though)

If the Cowboys drafted him, he would only see playing time at 3rd and long situations. No way I would ever want to risk him being in the game on a running down. That is just a scary thought.

You can`t go wrong with playmakers on the field. Good mock.

Black and Moffit won't fall that far. Von Miller is another one dimensional speed rusher that we don't need.. and again we neglect our biggest need at OL.

Back to the drafting board..

I like it but don't think Paea fits a 3-4 D personally. I know he's strong as an Ox, but don't feel he's built like a NT and his frame is pretty much maxxed out. He weighed in at the Senior Bowl at 295 lbs too, btw, not 311.

Overall it seems like a high risk/high reward type mock, You've got Herzlich who is still recovering from cancer, Miller who many claim is too small, Black is another guy that many claim is too small, Paea as I said is not the prototypical NT and can't play end. I'm interested in seeing how all these guys turn out even if they aren't Cowboys.

Could Paea play DE in a 34? He could be used like Ngata. Any chance Ngata leaves Baltimore? Haha.

Haloti is 6'4" 350, Paea is 6'1" 295 so they are completely different players. I'd say Kenrick Ellis has more a chance to be used in the Nagta roll, which I've been pimping for a while now. Having a 6'5" 340 DE could work wondering for both our run and pass D.

The Raven's would rather kill Nagta in his sleep like a crazy ex-girlfriend than let him walk, in my opinion.

Have we had an issue with an ex-girlfriend before? :muttley:

Paea IS strong as an ox and pretty much has no fat. I am sure he can put on 10-15 lbs. And he lost weight prior to SR Bowl while working on his speed (weighed in at 298 not 295). Paea played at 311 during Oregon State's regular season. Paea is built like the prototype two gapping NT, except he is not fat. The best NT are shorter (between 6'0 and 6'3) so the OL cannot get lower and under their pads. Both Ellis and Taylor, everyone's current flavors, are both taller DL. True they are both fatter than Paea, but neither have Paea's hustle, consistency or production. Paea is the better player. By far (fyi, Casey Hampton also gained weight once he got to pros).

Don't get stuck on size. Paea, Miller and Black just make plays. Neither Miller or Black may start right away, but they should play a ton. Both just have a nose for the ball. Football players come in all shapes and sizes, even the best ones. As for Herzlich, the guy was a stud once upon a time. His playmaking, leadership, smarts and tenacity are worth the risk, especially in the 3rd. Plus Herzlich fits your need for "big" players, and he is versatile enough to play ILB or OLB in a 3-4. Herzlich may not be the most athletic (never was) but he would be the best LB in coverage AND against the run on the roster as soon as he was drafted.

But you are right - due to injuries, this is def high risk/high reward draft.
