Well I wanted to make this topic a few weeks ago but held off, emotions run high in football so the longer it was away from the end of the season the better. I feel now is the right time to pull this topic out of the bag so lets begin:

What did we accomplish:
The first playoff win in 13 years,
Miles Austin emerged as a top 5 WR in the NFL.
Mike Jenkins emerged as the 4th best CB in the NFL (QB Passer rating when thrown against)
Anthony Spencer emerged as a dominant OLB.
Jay Ratliff proved he is the best DT in the game, winning all-pro.
Ware and Witten keep moving closer to the hall of fame with Ware winning the All-Pro nod and Pro Bowl and with Witten adding another Pro Bowl to his resume.
Wade Phillips won his first playoff game as a coach.
The December Curse was put to rest.
Tony Romo no longer is doubted about his ability to QB and won his first playoff game.
Winning the NFC East
We beat the Eagles 3 times this season
We beat the Commanders 2 times this season

What happened Negative this season:
We lost to the NYG 2 times this season
Everyone is 1 year older

I believe that this was an insanely successful season based on what we accomplished, and believe next year will be even more successful.

What do you think about the success of the 2009 season?

This is sort of a philosophical question. Many here believe the only successful season is one which ends with a Super Bowl win. Others might use different criteria such as winning the NFC East, winning a playoff game, going undefeated against the Skins or Eagles, etc. Yet there are others who at the start of the year will say Super Bowl is the only goal yet at the end of the year end up satisfied even if the team doesn't reach that goal.

I think the season was successful because I could see gradual improvement in the team compared to last season and throughout the season. I believe this team could have a Super Bowl appearance in the next 2-3 years and that gets me excited for the future. I also think getting rid of the troublemakers on the team created a much more positive vibe around the club compared to the 2008 circus revolving around TO and Pacman.

One other thing I'll say on the subject is that I used to take Cowboys losses harder and more seriously. Over time as I've aged and mellowed I've learned to enjoy the game more for the game itself rather than purely for the result. Sure I'll get upset after a loss but that'll now mostly pass within a couple of hours.

I'll look on it based on the only success is a Super Bowl for any fan. If that was the standard, than the word or phrase to describe this season would be "a big improvement and two steps forward."

Sure it was. Clearly our team is getting better and we won a playoff game. It's been a long time since we could say either of those things. Obviously we wanted the big prize so we are disappointed we came up short of that goal. But we established ourselves as Super Bowl contenders for next season. So I'd say yes it was a successful season.

At my age, 70, getting a year older is considered a win.

Yepper! That's me, too.

I'm a happy camper now.

Life is good.

IMO a successful season is one in which we make the playoffs. If you don't at least make the playoffs then you have no chance to win it all.

We won our division, made the playoffs, won a playoff game, and showed improvement in several areas. I think that is a very successful season.

A great season is one in which we win it all, or at least go to the big dance, and we didn't do that, but it was certainly successful from my viewpoint.

I'm looking forward to 2010 and hopefully going all the way! :starspin

well seeing that I felt this last year was not the year and that we were going to need another year to be ready to compete legitimately for a superbowl, I would say it was a very good year as we found out a lot about our team and most was good.

I don't care what team it is, or what sport you play. No season is succesful without a championship. Being satisfied with anything less is settling.

I forgot one negative, Roy Williams proved he was not worth the 1st and 3rd rounder we traded for him.

Dallas made some nice strides to compete for a Superbowl in 2009, they must improve a few positions and I think it's very possible.

He wasn't even worth the 6th round pick we gave up for him.
