The linebacker received some injuries to players in this group and needs to adjust according to game needs and then progress over time.
The Cowboys needed to go in search of depth at linebacker. Rashaan Evens was signed onto the team at position. In 2018 he and the Cowboys had a visit. He was drafted two positions after Vander Esch.
The functional element for the game against San Diego well be for this game to move Parsons back to his original position of Linebacker.
Dallas has strong depth at defensive end: DeMarcus Lawrence, Dorance Armstrong, Sam Williams, and Dante Fowler.
The return of San Diego's running back, ... prediction
Austin Ekeler over 49.5 rushing yards rush yards (-115)
Ekeler is a weapon, and now that he is back the Chargers are going to ride him. The Cowboys run defense is always available for gashing, and without Leighton Vander Esch this week it could get messy in the middle. The Chargers are going to take advantage and try to get the Cowboys.
Parsons and Damone Clark, team's second leading tackler, should be a good combination.
Five years later, Evans is in Dallas to help fill the void created by an injury to Vander Esch
Asked what's the biggest attribute he brings to Dallas, he was unequivocal.
"Physicality," he said. "I try not to be too savvy in my words about my play, and I try to leave it up to what I've shown on TV, but I can't wait for that opportunity to come
Along with that comes an opportunity, as noted above, to mentor players like Damone Clark and Malik Jefferson, as well as Mikel Jones on the practice squad and even safety Markquese Bell, who is getting a ton of work with the linebackers in 2023. Following the off game, Evans could help a lot.
How will the secondary adjust for this game?

Nick Harris: From what I can tell through two games, DaRon Bland has been placed in the exact role that the coaching staff would expect from Trevon Diggs – and he's excelled. It's easy to allow things to remain consistent when the defense around Bland is playing at the level that it is as well. With a suffocating pass rush, just locking down a receiver on the boundary might be all Bland has to do some Sundays. In the run game, he'll have to make open field tackles, but there shouldn't be anything different from a scheme perspective with Bland in there.
With two interceptions against the Patriots, one returned for a touchdown, the second-year corner already has three interceptions in four games and two returned for a touchdown and now eight in his short career. And no, DQ hasn't changed the scheme to compensate for the loss of Trevon Diggs. The Cowboys staff had confidence in Bland, first how he played initially in the slot and now outside at cornerback. And no, Bland is playing man for sure. Don't see much, if any zone, and regardless who is out there, the Cowboys will always try to pressure opposing quarterbacks, just as they harassed Patriots QB Mac Jones Sunday.
San Francisco came out of this week's lost stating what the Cowboys did about improving and needing to make changes for the problems revealed. They lost two important offensive producers, Deebo Samuel and Christian McCaffery similarly to Dallas against them last playoffs.
The second half was particularly brutal, with the 49ers offense racking up a paltry 47 total net yards on seven possessions after halftime. Entering their final drive with minus-five net yards in the second half, they racked up 52 total yards on the possession, which ended in heartbreaking fashion as Jake Moody missed the potential game-winning field-goal wide right. An opportunity for the Dallas Cowboys to bounce back from a demoralizing loss to the San Francisco 49ers awaits back out in the state of California when they take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football at SoFi Stadium.
The matchup with the Chargers will give the defensive unit for the Cowboys specific issues in the passing game where Justin Herbert has been exceptional so far this season.
CeeDee Lamb was noticeably frustrated on the sideline during the loss to San Francisco as he was largely a non-factor as the game got away at Levi's Stadium. This week, there will be an expected increase in importance on getting him the ball against a Chargers defense that has largely struggled so far this season.
Matched up with him will be Asante Samuel Jr. for most of his routes, as the 2021 second-round pick continues to flourish despite his short time in the league. While the defensive options in the secondary behind Samuel are shaky, his opportunity to limit Lamb will be available.
Don't expect to see this matchup on every snap, but when lined up against each other, it'll be an opportunity for each to take advantage of a lack in production around their respective matchup's side of the ball. The question will be which one can hold court for most of the night.
Terence Steele vs. Joey Bosa/Khalil Mack
When Terence Steele was thrown into the fire as a rookie against the Chargers right back at SoFi Stadium, he came out on the other side unscathed after lining up against Joey Bosa and finding success.
This time around, it might be a little different with Bosa questionable to go as he deals with a foot injury. Whether he goes or not, Steele will still have a challenge to face in Khalil Mack who typically combines with various fellow pass rushers off each edge to throw stunts at opposing tackles.
Fresh off a six-sack effort a couple of weeks back, Steele will need to settle in to hold Mack in check. If Bosa is healthy, that challenge only doubles.
Keenan Allen vs. Jourdan Lewis
With Mike Williams out for the year due to injury, it's been the Keenan Allen show once again in Los Angeles as he enters Monday night as the Chargers' leading receiver.
Out of the slot, Allen is a physical weapon that won't blow you away with his speed, but will win an opposing matchup with death by a thousand cuts in being physical off the line in his release, fluid in route running, and a unique body control ability that gives him the advantage almost every time down the field in jump ball situations.
Jourdan Lewis will draw the task of trying to limit Allen, but it won't be easy with the disadvantage in strength. If Lewis can have his best game of the season defending Allen, the Cowboys defense will be put in a much better position to come out with the win.
