It's not about control. 5 years is a long time anyway.If there's a really good RB that you love and fits exactly what you want, and if you have a late first round pick, I see nothing wrong with using a first round pick on a great RB like this year's Robinson or the previous year, Bryce Hall. It gives you 5 years of control with no franchising to run his legs off.....if you want a star RB. IF you just want a good one, wait. Most late first round picks have 2nd round grades anyway; it's all about having that extra year of control.
The cap hit of a first rounder is still more than you want to pay a RB AND the bigger, more pressing issue, is the opportunity cost of using a first-round pick on a non-premium positoin.
