As I watch the many threads on our forum, it is clear that most of us fans have a “narrative” about what this team is and isn’t. It’s based on past performance. And that’s normal and understandable.

But I want to challenge all Cowboys fans to keep your eyes open to what this 2021 team can become. This team is the second youngest team in the NFL. On the current 53 man roster, 21 players were not on the team last year. That means that almost 40% of this roster is new to the Cowboys.

The truth is, it takes at least 6-8 games- maybe more- for an NFL team to develop an identity. With 40% of this roster being new to the Cowboys, give this team some time to develop into something. None of us really know much about this team…yet.

My eyes have been wide open.

I’ll say this. I know a lot of you are still terrified any time we go on defense but I’m the opposite.

Im actually excited when we go on defense and it doesn’t feel like I’m watching the other special teams.

I know we’re giving up yards but I feel like we got guys capable of making plays.

Id love to see what it looks like when the Full unit is healthy and Dallas decides Jaylon shouldn’t be on the field.

And Jaylon Kearse.. Looks really good.

Also, don’t sleep on that Holton Hill signing. I haven’t watched him since he came out of school but that guy had potential. I’d like to know his background in the league.

I think we now have some good influence in the locker room, with the likes of Parsons, who refuses to come off the field and gives 100% all the time, vs. Woods , who last year mentioned nobody goes 100% all the time....Diggs comes from Alabama, where excellence is expected. hard work is your daily job....good influences. I like this young group. they have potential, they just have to realize it. perhaps last week they learned what it takes to pull games out, and that will help them grow a bit....

as you say, lets see where we are by 8th game. I am not necessarily worried about defensive performance, I look to see how we improve over the course of the season....that's key.

We know who we are on offense. It’s a high powered group with a razor thin offensive line. Any injuries on the line will derail us offensively.

I agree with you on defense as the personnel has changed greatly from last season.

Special teams we are comfortably below average. Our coverage units are maybe the worst in the league and it’s been that way for years.

I know it is still early but who would have thought even after 2 games Dallas defense would lead the league in take aways and 2nd most ints in the league? Granted we give up a lot or receptions but we also play a lot of zone which will allow a lot catches as receivers find soft areas of zone but upside we are not giving up much in terms of YAC.

I think this defense will continue to grow as a unit and as we get healthy I think better play can be expected.

If I remember correctly, when Jimmy Johnson started going young with the 1990's roster is when they started kicking butt. I guess we'll see how this year turns out.

The core of this offense has been together a few seasons and knows who they are so I disagree with your premise. The defense is pretty much new so I can agree with you there.

What we do know is the same leadership is still in place. That aside, the new guys have brought some much-needed juice to the team.

Defense still has some work to do, despite already looking better. Since the merger in 1970, only seven teams have had more than 50 takeaways in a season. The Cowboys are on pace for 51, but odds are they won't continue that pace. I do expect the unit to become more cohesive, able to get stops without being so turnover-dependent, which would go a long way toward a successful season. Time will tell, as the NFL cream rises to the top over 17 games.

Looking forward to Monday night's home opener against the Eagles.

Horrible in game management aside from MM his team building over the last two years has been great. His decision to keep Moore was a great one and moving on from Nolan to Quinn is paying big dividends.

It's going to take time for this defense to come together. We have a lot of new players, a lot of movement, and a new DC. So the only thing we can hope for is they continue to get turnovers until they can jell. If they can do that we'll definitely be in the playoff hunt.

In 2016 we were the youngest and hungriest team in football. I was sure that we would contend for at least the next 5 years. Without the right kind of core players and the right kind of front office success can be very fleeting. I am hoping we get back to that. I am hoping we can sustain it when we get there. I just struggle maintaining hope with this team based on when I have seen lately.

It's always the fan bases of bad teams who never know what their team really is yet.

Can I put you on record as the Cowboys are a bad team? I'd like to revisit the comment in the future if possible. Let me know soon. Thank you.

Gotta say, I'm really excited that this team might continue on the path it's on and find success in 2021. Hopefully so, in 2022, as well. Our young guns have come in with high hopes and aspirations. Dan Quinn has inspired them to support him and his way, most definitely. Mike McCarthy has apparently learned something from his poor start in 2020 and led his 2021 charges into giving their all. Let's be optimistic for once and support this year's team as best we can. There actually seems to be new hope on the horizon -- let's support them with all the heart we can muster! ;)
