Somewhere along the line, it all became about "not making mistakes"...sure, a coach is going to stress that...but this is just lunacy...and I think it takes away from a good player's natural ability.
Excellent point...Eli Manning is a perfect example of a player Parcells would probably ruin, and the NY offense with him. As the guys on this site love to point out, Eli has thrown a lot of INTs, but that little pecker also has thrown a crap load of TDs, leading the NFC last week, and he has engineered some impressive 4th quarter game winning drives for a QB his age, and it hasn't always been because Tiki was rushing for 200 yards either.

Some people see Eli's mistakes and errant passes. Apparently his coach sees his fire, tds, and wins.

We have no freakin leader on this team at all, not even close, and getting in the kickers face is not leading or showing passion. Getting into a 300 pound offensive lineman's face for getting your qb killed is showing passion, might get you killed but hey, a second rate receiver getting on the kicker just looks stupid. We need an identity in the worst way. I don't think an old man coach that hasn't won a Super Bowl in 15 years is what we need for an identity. We need a leader on the field. I just don't think he's on the team yet.

Here's the problem....or the evidence of the problem.

Monday night football...who are they going to show in their previews? Parcells.

What other coach has so many shots taken of him on the sidelines? That's why we saw the McBriar thing...because the cameras are always on Parcells.

He IS the team's identity.

Not a good thing.

But that's the way he wants it.

No one can tell me that Joe Gibbs hasn't had as much success. Did we see sideline shots of Gibbs belittling his players? Did we hear the announcers talk about Gibbs?

Nope...because he is NOT that team's identity.

Heck Jimmy Johnson was a heck of a force...but the team was always Aikman's, Smith's and Irvin's.

I don't think Parcells wants a mega star.

That's why Emmitt was asked to leave.

Whatever....it's all conjecture.

Well one thing is as obvious as the nose on your face.......as long as Parcells is head coach we will not be developing a young QB and that is a shame.

And what's the deal with not allowing his assistants to speak when reporters are around?

It's exactly like he wants it.

Yep...AND you'll not find a more strict coach than Couglin...who happens to be an ex assistant of Parcells.

Do you think, in a million years, that Parcells would have allowed the trade that the Giants made in order to get Eli???

No friggin' way.

Not only did Couglin approve of it....but he benched Warner when his team was STILL in the playoff picture in order to start Manning.

And for anyone who thinks I have always been anti Parcells...it isn't even remotely the case...I LOVED the way he coached both NY teams...in fact, I even have one of his books.

But...as he said, "No matter what you've done in the past, sooner or later you have to prove you can still get the job done"

We're still waiting Bill.

This was a point I made to a Commander fan earlier, the Giants are going to win the division with their QB of the future learning on the way and the Cowboys and Commanders are treading water with retread QBs.

Juke you have really hit the nail on the head tonight as far as I'm concerned. I've been thinking for awhile that our guys are going through football-related-movements-to-please-a-coach instead of playing football to win against an opponent. They play without joy and they are certainly not a joy to watch. You can't program a person. Put them in the best position and turn them loose. Once again great job in all your posts tonight.

Someone made a point earlier about coaching ruining Julius Jones. I personally believe that's the case, because he is a different runner than he was last year. He wraps the ball up with both hands, cuts it up quick, afraid to take a negative play.

I have the Cowboys Super Bowl Champions DVD.

In that DVD, there are some highlights of Billy "White shoes" Johnson returning punts.

When watching him, I couldn't help but notice that almost everytime he fielded a punt, he caught the ball moving backwards. This took me back to the Parcells "In their own words" show, where Parcells berates Dedric Ward, and explains to him how he has to catch the ball moving forward or he won't return punts on his team. Then Parcells tells him how he's coached all the great ones... like McConkey and Megget.

Anyway, White Shoes was one of the greatest return guys of all time. And he wouldn't be running back punts for Parcells. Or he would be a 9.5 yard average guy, not the explosive player he was.

Parcells is stubborn. He has his beliefs.

I want the Cowboys to play to win, and not average football.

Mr. Motley (I believe) is correct. Parcells can take an average player and make him a little better... but does he take above average players and make some of them worse?

I think so.

Yeah we won't win a super bowl with Parcells, won't happen.

He is far to old school

Words can't really describe how a feel about him and all the things he does, some things are just plain idiotic.

And just wondering wasn't the hype on Parcells always his great LBs and offensive linemen, what the heck happend to that?

And I also agree on Juke's comments, and probably bad timing but what's wrong with my signature pic?

I keep scratching my head about Tucker................why o' why was he not replaced? Tucker was completely lost today yet Bill chose not to replace him. I really dont think Columbo could have done any worse. Thoughts?

Thats not true. Just we wont win one this year. Parcells is oldschool, not stupid. Hes gunna build with a long term plan in place. A goal to be achieved over maybe 3 offseasons.

Your gunna have to be patient to see the finished product here as Parcells builds. Suffer through a subpar season or two, then claim the prizes and respect due a championship, for several years or longer. Not a one year wonder. This maybe the era of instan winners, but Parcells dont subscribe to that philosophy. Never has and never will.

Theres a reason for his actions and method to his madness. Wether we see it or not, Jones is aware of it and shares it or he would not have been brought here.

anyway, please name one the starter and leave him in there. Any RB will tell ya that they need to get in the flow of the game...that they feel more comfortable as the game wears on and they get more carries. There's no way either of these guys can get in a rythmn.

:hammer:
How many times did Emmitt get stymied all game only to break out the second half ?

Hi Wayne. IMO our offence is too limmited by old guys with no future and no Juice or big honking FBs to play smash mouth. Martyball, Lovey Smith with the Bears and Bill all would rather play ball control runing offence with dink passes to keep the D honest. Well the best passes Drew made this game were his two passes before his interception right before the half. He unloaded the ball twice is what it looked like to me. Other than Witten short passes just do not seem to suit Drew.

What aggravated me about the defence was we neither had power or speed(the old Cowboy standard) in our 3-4. Dat we will truely miss you if you retire. Dat filled holes and drove blockers or backs backward.

Bill used to make some, not many, adjustments at the half. This time I think he was out and out shocked by the first half.

We got no playmakers this year's O. I hope we have some next year but am afraid we will see more retreads than young players with a future. Bill in Dallas is starting to strongly bring to mind George Allen in Washington. Only I don't see us playing against Miami in the Superbowl.

Next year, we need to get younger, stronger and faster. Bill's old players from his old teams are slowly becoming a smaller pool for him to justify signing them. They aren't that many and really not that good now or at least if they are they are tied up. Hopefully it will make him rethink drafting and FA. I do not think cannot evaluate players but I do think he cannot afford veteran security blankets.

Draft the 06 Phil Symms now. Sorry Reality but this is not a draft post. Really, it is a metaphore. (%

The single biggest thing for me is the defensive line almost seemingly never able to shed a block. If an offensive lineman engages them and gets a hand inside their shoulder pads, it's over, the RB can just run all day.

I don't know whether this is thanks to the youngsters wearing down where we rely on them so much, or if they're just not physically able to.

The one thing that seemingly kills the defense is still the lack of a big time pass rusher. Ware could easily be the answer, if only he would learn some rushing skills. His bull rush may have worked in college and his speed rush as well, but it doesn't work on the big stage, fella. Ware needs someone like a Haley, Taylor, etc., who will really sit down and teach him things like this.

Lastly, our offense is just fine, IMO. The lack of playmakers, etc., doesn't worry me. If we had even an average offensive line our offense would produce more than enough points to win us ALOT of ballgames.

If Carolina's defense runs roughshod over the offensive line next week and Dallas gets beaten bad again I think there's a good chance the team quits on Parcells for the final game and finishes 8-8.
I won't be surprised if Jerry drops the axe on Parcells if it plays out that way. He will be a .500 coach over 3 years and still treading water without a long term solution at QB.
Parcells has made some headway in bringing in some good players but Jerry was expecting more by this point.
