A possible move for another nose tackle?... Casey Hampton *Merge*

I'm not sure he would be keen on being Ratliff's backup.

And I'm not sure I'm keen on moving Ratliff to DE.

So unless we could get it done for next to nothing, I don't like giving much up for this.

I'd rather wait and pick up someone who is going to get cut.

I thought I read somewhere that the Skins may cut Anthony Montgomery, who is a wide body space eater with starting experience. Maybe grab him for backup NT.

wont happen, here is why;
Casey Hampton-DL- Steelers Sep. 2 - 9:45 am et

Steelers NT Casey Hampton and defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau laughed off rumors that the run-stopper would be cut before the season.

The 32-year-old is entering a contract year, but he's an unlikely candidate for release. Instead, the Steelers will let him walk as a free agent after the season.

The reports flying over the Internet that Steelers NT Casey Hampton will be cut are just rumors. The future of Hampton in Pittsburgh after this season, though, is slim. "If I get to free agency, man, everbody knows what it is. If they let me get to free agency, there's no need to talk about it," said Hampton.

I think the guy's name is Chris Hoke (sp?). He played well in place of Hampton a few years ago.

You guys are probably right in that he's not going anywhere, but I'd love to get some form of a rotation of him and Ratliff.

Yeah, they were still tops in run D when Hoke replaced Hampton a couple of years ago and they didn't miss a beat. Even though I'm a big believer in Siavii but if Hampton is available then I'm all for it.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!! COME TO DALLAS CASEY!!!

Boy I would love that scenario!!!

Hampton's the rock of that defense and one of the best NT's in the league, I guarantee he's going nowhere.

I expect several other 3-4 Ds are going to be all over that. You know, the ones that don't have a pro bowl NT.

Who's trying to replace him?

Reading is fundamental.
So is logic and common sense, which you clearly lack if you think that the best NT in the league is going to be someone's backup.

If he were released, a team with a worse record than the Cowboys would sign him before Dallas had the chance.

Nice dream, but it's time for reality to settle in.

There is nothing wrong with having a back up nose tackle for one season. I think Dallas could accept that. There are other factors that will have more influence than him being a stop gap back up player.

I was refering to maybe HE may not want to be a backup player

Veterans aren't exposed on waivers, they become free agents.

If we have any shot on the guy, I suspect it is going to come with a trade. The problem is that I would not want to give up more than 5th rounder, and Pitt would demand much more than that.

If he is going to hit the streets, someone will offer something to Pitt before he does to lock him up.

Give it up:

I don't think the 'best NT in the league' is available.

And it doesn't look like Hampton truly is either.

And if he were, and the Cowboys traded for him and paid him his salary, he'd do whatever, wherever, however the team asked.

But you just keep going on about us somehow wanting to replace Ratliff in all of this...

Big choice. Never was versus a Pro Bowler.

Out of curiousity, what do you see in Siavii? Do you and Wade Phillips have the same prescription?

If the price is right, run stuffing, middle clogging NT's are at a premium.

Even used up blubbery lumps like Ted Washington find work late in their careers. Hampton isn't even close to that territory yet.

I doubt that they'll let Hampton go, but I do hope we can get someone in here in place of Siavii.
