in RR's defense.

I know we've discussed him, but the more I'm reading about this guy, he could be a 6th or 7th round low risk option for us.

Chris Neild, West Virginia, 6015 (height), 319 lbs, 5.06 40 yd dash. He's a pretty good athlete, though he played NT in WVU's 3-5-3 defensive scheme.

His 10-yard split was 1.73. As a comparison with other Day 3 guys, L Guy (Arizona State) was 1.76, J Jenkins (Clemson) was 1.81, C Thornton was 1.83. In fact, Neild's split was exactly the same as Corey Liuget's. (Fairley's split was 1.72 and Dareus was 1.71 for comparison.)

Ourlads' compares Neild to Kelly Gregg of the Ravens, when he came out of Oklahoma.

Ourlads goes on to say "Outstanding agility and change of direction. Quick feet. Explosive with quick reactions. Durable to hold up at a tough position. Eats up blockers . . . . Explosive use of hands . . . . Plays with intensity and desire to make every play. Good effort in down field pursuit. A good athlete with huge hands."

Neild'd hands are huge - 11 inches, his Arms are a bit short, but not too short, 31 7/8, and he did 30 reps on the BP.

Neild could be a guy that we use some at NT and also at DE in rotation. I think he's more than just a "plugger". And in the 6th or 7th round, Neild could be a reasonable option. Plus, he's a 3 year starter, so he's got some experience coming out of college as well.

Would love hearing your opinions . . . .

I could see him being a DT plugger-type or even playing some DE in heavy goaline sets, but I just don't see him being versatile enough to play DE in a regular scheme, 34 or 43.

He is a guy that I can see playing in the league for 10 years or so.

Maybe I'm giving him too much credit for being both a blue collar guy and a good athlete. I don't know.

Obviously, I'd prefer Watt or C Jordan or Ellis, but if we find that we're going in another direction after Day 1 and Day 2, I was thinking he might work . . . .

But thanks for the reply.

Can't help thinking about the Gregg comparisons with Rob's brother doing so well with him in Baltimore.

Don't need any tweeners or any players trying to learn 2 positions. Need a solid guy at 1 position. However, if they can find the players at each position earlier, and possible FA's if available. A 6th or 7th choice would be ok. Only if he's the BPA.

Oh, I'm not impugning the guy when I say I see him as a "plugger." He'd be a great guy to look at in rounds 5-7. I wouldn't be shocked if he went a round or two before that. The guy is built like a bowling ball.

2009 - Started all 13 games … saw action on more than 645 plays, including a season high 81 against UConn … used on 50 or more plays in nine games

hes a hard worker

but I think Ryan gave it away - at the combine when Ian Williams was lifting you could see Ryan in the backround

that why I got Dallas taking Williams

Wasn't that S Paea he was watching? When Paea was bench pressing and he was going nuts.

I'm with you. I think he is a NT or a 4-3 NT. Just a line clogger. I like him but you usually want your 3-4 DE to be tall with long arms.

it was both, Ryan goes crazy watching the bench.
I think Ian WIlliams will be our pick in the 4th. He is a classic NT.
Kendrick Ellis is a DE to me, to tall to be a NT, plays to high. Ian WIlliams plays low and clogs up the middle.
I want to go OL and secondary early. Then DL, Ellis or JEnkins for DE, Williams for NT and as a luxury and Thornton to the DE if we can get him late.

I think we need to take Ellis towards the end of the 2nd (around 55-60) if we want him though. After P Taylor, he's probably the next best "big guy".

If we take Ellis we still need to draft a NT, I don't think Ellis is a NT, plays to high.

Also I would rather have Rackley over Ellis.

I still think Rackley goes early to mid 3rd most likely.

You think he goes in the 2nd?

He could, just depends on what players are taken when. Depends on how the draft shakes out. I can see a run on OGs in the 2nd so if so then yes Rackley will be gone. I would love to some how get and extra 2nd and 3rd and walk out the draft with T.Smith, Harris, Rackley, Ellis, Sheppard and Williams but I don't wee how thats possible. Jerry just make it happen.

I can't see Rackley going to the 4th. I can see how he can land at 71 but not all the way to the 4th round. I think saying the 4th round is more wishful thinking thans realitiy.

Ratings the OGs
Pouncey
Watkins
Ijalana
Cannon
Hudson
Rackley
