in RR's defense.
I know we've discussed him, but the more I'm reading about this guy, he could be a 6th or 7th round low risk option for us.
Chris Neild, West Virginia, 6015 (height), 319 lbs, 5.06 40 yd dash. He's a pretty good athlete, though he played NT in WVU's 3-5-3 defensive scheme.
His 10-yard split was 1.73. As a comparison with other Day 3 guys, L Guy (Arizona State) was 1.76, J Jenkins (Clemson) was 1.81, C Thornton was 1.83. In fact, Neild's split was exactly the same as Corey Liuget's. (Fairley's split was 1.72 and Dareus was 1.71 for comparison.)
Ourlads' compares Neild to Kelly Gregg of the Ravens, when he came out of Oklahoma.
Ourlads goes on to say "Outstanding agility and change of direction. Quick feet. Explosive with quick reactions. Durable to hold up at a tough position. Eats up blockers . . . . Explosive use of hands . . . . Plays with intensity and desire to make every play. Good effort in down field pursuit. A good athlete with huge hands."
Neild'd hands are huge - 11 inches, his Arms are a bit short, but not too short, 31 7/8, and he did 30 reps on the BP.
Neild could be a guy that we use some at NT and also at DE in rotation. I think he's more than just a "plugger". And in the 6th or 7th round, Neild could be a reasonable option. Plus, he's a 3 year starter, so he's got some experience coming out of college as well.
Would love hearing your opinions . . . .
