Does anyone else the cowboys would get a real GM. I know Jerry hasn't run the drafts since he got BP, but parcells keeps giving the cowboys bust after bust in rounds 2-3.
Rogers - staff told him not to take him. He did it anyway.
Al Johsnon - Keeps getting manhandled.
Jones - can't stay healthy. Was always injured in college. Would have rather had Tatum Bell.
Burnett - Injury prone in college. ACL tear not his fault, though. Should have taken Kalif Barnes
Henson - Bust!!! Houston stole a 3rd rounder.
Peterman - Better show something this year. First year not his fault though.

I know he drafted Spears and Ware, but anyone could have made those picks. Canty was about the only shrewd pick he made.

Nah man, BP took that waste of sperm out to dinner before he signed him. He even talked to him for hours before the trade was made. He was real secretive about Henson because he didn't want another team to leap frog him.

I agree. I think they should get someone who has run a team that has won at least three Super Bowls.....Oh, wait, I guess there is only about two of them in the league and Jerry Jones is one of them.;-)

How bout last years draft???
What was wrong with it?

Even if Burnett , I think too early too tell, is a bust we still hit big on the rest of the draft.....

Nah, I'll take the 3 Superbowls that were garnered in the relatively short amount of time that he has owned the team (compared to some other owners.)

If you blast JJ for the drafts now, you've gotta blast him for the drafts that happened back when we were winning the Superbowls.....you can't have it both ways....although too many people try to do that.

I'd say let's hire Wolverine, but even Jerruh doesnt have the money it would take to stock his roster with the drugs and bail charges it would require....

What are you talking about? I will take Julius Jones over Tatum Bell any day of the week! Burnett got injured the last week of the season. I don't believe just anyone would have picked Ware! Spears is great. Canty is great. Pettiti started way too early. Crayton from the year before.
We'll see about Peterman. So he missed on one player- Jacob Rogers. Give the man a break!

Rogers - staff told him not to take him. He did it anyway. Yeah BP's Bad
Al Johsnon - Keeps getting manhandled. BP's Bad again
Jones - can't stay healthy. Was always injured in college. Would have rather had Tatum Bell. Tatum Bell was gone...should have gone Michael Turner IMO.
Burnett - Injury prone in college. ACL tear not his fault, though. Should have taken Kalif Barnes I won't argue this one but not ready to pass judgement yet
Henson - Bust!!! Houston stole a 3rd rounder. Jerry's trade and I haven't given up on him yet...We'll see training camp
Peterman - Better show something this year. First year not his fault though. Agreed 100%...Do or Die for Peterman in 06

I know he drafted Spears and Ware, but anyone could have made those picks. Canty was about the only shrewd pick he made. Don't forget MBIII and Ratliff plus Crayton the year before...BP has a good late round track record.

And also remember that we just made the switch to Ireland. Let's give it a chance before we give up on the current structure...it's the best it's been since Jimmy left us.

Let's not forget his ingenius trade with Minnesota. Quite possibly the best trade ever.

Was he the GM then? Then give him credit if you are going to blast him now.

I'm not dissing Ireland, I'm dissing Parcells. I do not understand all the man love he gets. Parcells is a good coach, nothing special as far as GM duties in Dallas are concerned.

I'm not giving the "man love" to Parcells, I actually don't like him. I don't even like him as a sideline coach and strategist but I do like his track record of building teams.

Just "Giving the Devil His Due" as it were.

That wasn't a diss on you, but rather a diss to people who follow Parcells blindly. We could do alot worse. However to think that Parcells doesn't have blemishes is foolish. We need a GM that has the brass to draft a quarterback of the future and say no to questionable picks. Parcells does not have that with Jones. Burnett over Barnes. Not taking Leftwich over Newman, etc... Newman is a good corner, but a quarterback is much more important. We don't know if we will ever have another oppurtunity like that again.

I am encouraged about one thing. This year we took Ware over Merriman (and no I don't want to go into that comparison in this thread) when Parcells appeared to want Merriman. When asked why we went with Ware Parcells replyed, "You'll have to ask Jeff Ireland about that." So even if Jones does not have the cajones to say no to Big Bill it seems that Ireland does.

I'm willing to give the current structure a chance since last year was the best draft we have had in eons...and NO Way Jerry gives up his GM title no matter what anyway.

BTW it's just a discussion...I'm not feeling dissed :)

Its a win now league. Players get so expensive and hard to keep and stay under the cap that you are always looking to FA and the draft to stockpile players as it seems to be the only way to remain competitive.

I credit the Patriots with this more than any other team. They have what looks like on paper zero depth, but they draft players who soundly fit their system, and pick up FAs sparingly, who are cheaper but equally effective in their system. Their scouts are top notch.

As far as the Cowboys getting a real GM, you could rip apart nearly every teams drafts/ personnel moves and probably over 50% of them would include players who never lived up to expectations, or were traded, released, or became UFAs that just were not feasible to keep.
