There was no one around him though lol. The only person around him was his teammate. I get the risk of fumble......but his was nothing like Lawrences. Lawrence had a fumble to fall on to. Burnett had clear momentum to atleast get into field goal range if not more.

Remember all it takes is one receiver to close and knock it out from behind and he'd be crucified. Better to be safe than sorry. The real problem was the offense not even trying to get a first down.

He missed lots of big kicks.

Missed at the end of the Houston game and then against DET and GB missed FGs.

I think I remember him getting a bit banged up in a game. What game did he have one or two blocked

That is what happened to the Cowboys in 2008. After a great 13-3 2007 season our special teams were terrible. That led to two or three losses and then lead to the infamous special teams draft of 2009. That special teams performance of 2008 set the franchice back 5 years at least.

Our special teams probably costy us the Packers game. Missed FG led to 3 points for GB and then Hanna's non recovery probably resulted in a 14 point swing.

That felt as good as a sharp stick in the eye.

I mean kickers miss kicks. I mean I guess I remember vaguely. I seem to remember the guy missing 50 yarders if I'm not mistaken? At the time I wasn't concerned with it but this season seems like a big blur now after what happened last week lol. The GB game was terrible though. I definitely remember that.

Remember all it takes is one receiver to close and knock it out from behind and he'd be crucified. Better to be safe than sorry. The real problem was the offense not even trying to get a first down.

If a safety/cornerback gets ripped from a receiver than he needs to hit the weight room. I'm just not buying it lol. I understand your argument though. At the time it never crossed my mind. I just didn't know teams approach the game like that but McCarthy was definitely conservative.

Two things:

Never underestimate the heart of a champion
Momentum, she's a fickle -itch

I think GB was already planning their travel arrangements to Arizona and thought Wilson wouldn't get his groove back, then karma weighed in and gave them that onsides kick!

Great point.

Special Teams will win/lose a team 2-3 games a season.

It was a major contributing factor to both the Cowboys losing to the Packers and the Packers losing to the Seahawks this post-season.

Ignore special teams at your own peril.

Something was going on with bailey this season

I recall he took a hellacious hit on a KO return tackle about 3/4 through the season (can't recall the game) and his FG's seems to waver after that. Before, he was so automatic that you not only knew that he was going to make it, but where it was going to go through the uprights. After that, his kick although good, looked flat or inconsistent. I love Bailey but he has to get his head right. Totally unlike him to miss 2 in a row in GB.

There has a lot of talk about the the offense and the defense as it relates to the Cowboys getting to the Superbowl next year -- right now.

If you look at the Packer game and, IMHO, what ultimately lost them the game in Seattle it was their special teams failing them -- the fake FG for a TD and a onsides kick.

One thing that didn't get a lot of airplay this season is the general downward trend of special teams. Lack of returns. FG kicking not as good as other years, etc.

I'd hate for the Cowboys to get better overall (defensively mainly) next season and then blow a game like the Packers did on special team.

Its easy to forget how pivotal special teams can be.

Green Bay also had he ball on about the 1 yard line on 2 different drives and only ended up with a Field Goal.

I agree with you.

However, if you had to boil the loss down to the single most influential play -- it was the blown onside-kick recovery. If Green Bay recovers that it's game over.

I believe the average onside kick recovery percentage is 10-11%. The Packers have a 90% chance of winning the game up that point.

They had a guy (Bostic) decide to do something <other> than his job and it cost them the game, a chance a Superbowl, etc.

What was he supposed to do? I just remember him trying to catch it.
