Jimmy Johnson is that you?

Great point and I completely agree.

More like Bill Parcells. Not his biggest fan but the man was obsessive over special teams.

How did they not know the fake might be coming? As they were lining up, I was thinking to myself a FG does them no good.

Going conservative didnt help GB cause.. Running theball on 3rd&4 in Sea territtory when their reeling? Bad call. I think his team took the coaches lead and played tight. How about a pass vs. a one armed man?

McCarthy played to run out the clock.

The Packers lost because of special teams? I thought their special teams played pretty well. The fake field goal? You think they should have been prepared for that ? Those things happen.

The Packers lost because they wouldn't commit to the run, and they relied too much on their special teams, i.e., field goals.

Prepared? Absolutely. I don't even follow the Seahawks much but I turned top my wife and said watch Carroll fake this kick because they were down by so much. That's totally his M.O.

And to top it off, Hawk just watches as an eligible lineman sprints past him. What did you think he was doing? running for the popcorn vendor? There's no behind you Hawk!

And having a LB jump in front of Nelson on the on sides kick?????? That special teams coach needs to be shown the door today.

That is what happened to the Cowboys in 2008. After a great 13-3 2007 season our special teams were terrible. That led to two or three losses and then lead to the infamous special teams draft of 2009. That special teams performance of 2008 set the franchice back 5 years at least.

Our special teams probably costy us the Packers game. Missed FG led to 3 points for GB and then Hanna's non recovery probably resulted in a 14 point swing.
I think Murray's fumble was a lot more costly. A probable 14 point swing there.

Yep. That fumble and the Dez catch being reversed changed what would have been a pretty big margin of victory into a loss.

Of course, without the fumble, Dallas likely isn't even throwing that pass.

No. Bailey started having trouble I think around the Chicago game. I don't know if he was hurt or just had the yips but it was more than one game.

I guess what i'm saying is that kickers don't kick at a 100% rate. A few misses isn't a cause for concern for me. But in the post season I will agree he wasn't himself. I didn't feel that way about the regular season.

Yeah, that's the thing for me, I don't worry with just missing a kick occassionally, but I had noticed in the regular season that Bailey, even kicks he made, did not look strong. It is kind of hard to put a finger on since he didn't go into a bad slump, he just seemed a little off. I know I had the utmost confidence in Bailey and did so for several season's now, the dude was money, but even before the playoffs I was losing confidence in him and worrying.

Has anyone seen a coach or Bailey himself asked about it? I haven't seen a single word about it, but maybe I just worry too much.

As I recall a few of Bailey's extra-points went pretty far off-center - both to the left and the right - before he started missing field goals.

You know that you bring it up...I sort of remember that as well. Not saying he should hit straight down the middle every time.....but its hard to recall of too many kicks just being clean straight down the middle even on extra points.

There has a lot of talk about the the offense and the defense as it relates to the Cowboys getting to the Superbowl next year -- right now.

If you look at the Packer game and, IMHO, what ultimately lost them the game in Seattle it was their special teams failing them -- the fake FG for a TD and a onsides kick.

One thing that didn't get a lot of airplay this season is the general downward trend of special teams. Lack of returns. FG kicking not as good as other years, etc.

I'd hate for the Cowboys to get better overall (defensively mainly) next season and then blow a game like the Packers did on special team.

Its easy to forget how pivotal special teams can be.

Lost game due to Red Zone scoring as you can not keep scoring FG instead of TD's.

Actually, Bostick was supposed to block. Instead, he had a brain fart and went for the ball. That's a case of a teammate not doing his job. I've seen it time and time again coaching kids. You can tell them to do something, but in a game situation, they do the opposite of what you say do. That's not necessarily coaching. That's human instinct, or lack thereof. :(

It seemed like some of his kick-offs didn't go as deep too, but it's hard to tell if it was intentional or not, I mean sometimes that's what the coach calls. That was sort of what got me to noticing it though. It made me wonder if had had some sort of injury, not one bad enough to keep him off the field, but some sort of little nagging thing that was more of an irritant than outright injury. Like I say though, I haven't even seen where a reporter has asked him about it.
