There will never be a RB paid like him again.
I don’t think Dorsett made a lot of money playing football.

Emmitt made some money.

Zeke made a lot of money.

Those are the top 3 RB in Cowboys history.

I think you could argue that DMurray made some $$$.

this mindset is repulsive.

They're making good money to play RB in the NFL for however long they choose to do that. No one is forcing them to be there. This is what the market on RBs has become. Not really repulsive at all. And it's exactly why a majority of the teams are using a committee, just like the Super Bowl champs. When it comes time to move on... they will and they have a number of times already!

I think you're wrong.

RBs are not going to be paid like this anymore. They don't last long and they are replaceable.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with paying an elite RB big money per year. But those big second contracts will start being 2 year deals imo. The only way a RB gets a big deal like Zeke got is if some idiot shows up on the scene.

I'm responding to the notion that you "run them until the wheels fall off"

Have you seen the images of Tony Dorsett and Earl Campbell lately.

Just the idea that I don't care about their well-being as long as they are getting a paycheck and I need my football fix.

The guy who has been on 3 teams in 7 years?
Lol. You know the secret to success is seeing the non obvious. I really wish everyone reads this post.

So you need to analyze this. Zeke was drafted at 4, Ramsey at 5.
In 2019 the Jags traded him to the Rams for 2 NUMBER 1 Picks. In 2019 the Cowboys extended Elliot on a 5 year 90 million dollar contract.

The Jags took a top 5 talent, got 3 great years, reached a championship game. Traded him for two future number 1's. Sounds like a great value for them.
We got a RB, which is the ultimate replaceable position, as we drafted Pollard who has been the better player the past three years.

That explains why he is always so happy. It's easy to be a great "team guy" when you are grossly over paid.

Doesn't mean you want to see anyone in poor shape medically as they get older. That's why I think a committee is a better long term solution for the team and the player. Running them until the wheels fall off would imply something like 350 carries and those days are long gone or at least they should be. Even Dorsett only had more than 300 carries 3 times in a 12 year career. Campbell 5 times in 8 years. That's a lot of pounding to take.

Zeke was smart getting that extension. Not his fault and don’t blame him one bit.
Exactly. It was the Cowboys' fault for giving him that much, not Zeke's fault. What was he supposed to do, throw the money back at them?

Maybe not but the reasons our dysfunctional owner over paid him is the bigger issue.
Jerry still overvalues the RB position. He thinks the NFL is what it was 30 years ago and RB's like Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, Thurman Thomas, etc. etc. ruled the game.

Yea but that’s not why he caved and over paid Zeke in that moment .

He is already gone .... OP is just starting this thread because he did not like the player ala pettiness.
Yeah!?!? And your point is?!?! The Ewok has been stealing $$ for 3 seasons. JJ should have his head examined for caving to the dude and his agent.

The first 20 million of the 70 was his rookie deal. The first year of his new deal he got half of his guaranteed money. If he stayed healthy and kept running the same or close to it then it would have worked out for JJ and us or closer to ok. Lol. He declined quick. He hurt his knee one year and I understood, the next year he tweaked it but I expected more. Do y’all think he mailed it in.

Honestly, I think most professional athletes' contracts are ridiculous.
