A Reminder Of How Insane Zeke's Contract Was, Is, And Always Will Be

This is all really about the GM. The GM who made a tragic draft decision. The GM that agreed to a catastrophic contract.

The Zeke saga is the perfect example of the bad decisions that have led to decades of failure and mediocrity

The Cowboys are run by an amateur.

Apologies for coming off as harsh, I took your comment that modern players were greedy and other guys of the past weren’t m. All players in every generation played for money and fame.

I thought Earl said he wouldn’t, but I just verified and he said he has no regrets, though he fell into alcohol use and pain killer abuse for a long time, but he now sober.

This article from 2001 tells you how bad it is for those old football players.

No worries. In a perfect world the players would all try their best at all times, be rewarded financially equal to what they produced, retire healthy and rich. The unfortunate part is that this is pro football. It is a violent and destructive sport. Despite what people might say it modern day gladiators and that is why it is so popular and beloved. Without the super human strength of the participants and the violence no one would care this much. I have always said that only the strongest and most determined humans on the planet can survive on an NFL football field. It is the pinnacle and that is what makes it great.

Zeke was once a mighty warrior who stood atop the mountain. He signed a massive contract and almost overnight looked like a pathetic worm who could not wait for it to end. People can love him anyway, they can forgive him, they can still worship him, each to their own. I am first and foremost a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He is a turd that screwed the team and his team mates and as such the fans. Very happy he is gone.

This is where I think big contracts get misunderstood. Zeke signed for six years, $90 million. We kept him for four years and he made $42,279,655, which is $10.5 million per year. Restructures and backloading pushes money down the deal to where we owe him another $11 million this year, but there's also nearly $40 million in base pay that he was never going to receive.

JG and Linehan ran him into the ground. Thanks for the memories Zeke. It was fun watching him early in his career.

Wait until we look back on Dakota...
Zeke was a bad draft pick no matter what. Jerry did what Jerry does.
Ramsey was the guy to get. If you are picking in the top 5, think about how you will feel when you give that player a second contract.

As fans we had to hold our nose to accept him getting a second contract.
It's a very simple rule. if you draft that high, you want the player to stick long term.

The thing that blew my mind was when he did do his holdout he was technically 3rd in the entire NFL at his position for guaranteed money and 1st in the NFL in total guaranteed

It's not like you the some $550k a year player who was getting jipped and getting run into the ground for peanuts

The guy who has been on 3 teams in 7 years?

It’s a business. Zeke and his agent were smart to treat it as such and maximize his earnings.

Unfortunately for us fans, we don’t have an FO that was smart enough to out-maneuver them.

You draft a RB.

You run him until the wheels fall off.

You don't sign him to a second contract.

You move on.

Rinse and repeat.
And that’s why I don’t have an issue with Zeke getting his money and holding out. I also wouldn’t have drafted a RB that high either though
