A Reminder Of What Stephen Thinks About The Super Bowl Champ Eagles Way Of Doing Things

The Eagles might be Super Bowl champs in 2026 but wait until 2030 when they have to sign and release a couple of guys.

They're so screwed and I'll bet they wish they did things a little smarter when the time comes.

Super Bowls come and go, but good cap management is forever.
What is so funny about this, is that this almost word for word what Stephen Jones has said regarding the Eagles and Rams approach.

He literally would just agree with what you said.

That is true but CBs are really hard to hit on. To nail a star at 22 is hard but another one at 40 is very hard. Somehow they just seem to be in the perfect spot for players who slipped. Jalen Carter was the #1 prospect coming out and falls right into thier lap at pick 9. Great scouting with a little luck too
They traded up for Carter.

Yup.

Those void contracts have a huge $$$ cap hit at the end.

We are going to get hit my Martins contract.
Yup.

It’s much better to avoid “huge $$$ cap hit at the end” by not putting a roster together that can compete with the best teams in the NFL.

The Eagles and Rams are doing it right in my opinion. You create a window of opportunity for a few years and hope to win a SB in that windows before blowing it up and doing it again. Between now and 2029 the Eagles have a chance to win and if they do? Will blowing it up in 2028 and 2029 feel that bad? We forget the Eagles were 4-11-1 in 2020.

But it is more than just creating a window. They are also making some better personnel decisions that Dallas has. Zack Baun, Mekhi Becton and Saquon Barley were all smart decisions for them. Baun and Becton were under $3 million. Who did Dallas sign for that kind of money that made an equivalent contribution on the field?

Stephen should be jealous of what the Eagles have accomplished.

And the biggest decision: Trading Wentz and getting a 1st in return. That's how you rebuild, trade away someone w/ value. We could've traded away Dak before this season and gotten a 1st+. Instead, we paid him huge and now are stuck w/ the exact same holes on our team that we always have w/ Jerry built teams. As we while away our seasons at 8-9.

The Eagles can go 0-17 next year and be in cap hell for the next 5 years and no one will care. They won the whole freaking thing….
Jerry would gladly have what they have , but wont say it loud

Pretty much

Pretty much
Their “cap hell” will start sooner than later. For instance, Sweat’s 2025 year, per his contract, voids 23 days before the start of the new league year. That’s this Monday. If they don’t extend him by 4:00 PM 2/17 they take a $16 million cap hit this year. Williams leaves, no cap hit. Roseman has a lot of balls in the air. It’s inevitable a few fall to the ground.

Since I doubt Roseman takes many days off, even after winning the SuperBowl (unlike a certain other "GM"), you can be sure he has a plan A and a plan B and a plan C already.

What an idiot… there is no team now or ever that will be set for life. All teams deal with the cap , the successful ones and the ones who win championships are the ones who go all in at the right times. Then take a few years to either reload or even rebuild.

After 30 years, what is his excuse?

Read the quotes here by Howie Roseman about his and Lurie's overall process and you can begin to understand why they've been so successful.

Poor super bowl winners.

Instead of tearing it down as he should have, Jerry prolonged the mediocrity by signing Dak and CD to huge contracts.

And now, I fully expect Jerry to prolong the mediocrity even further by sending some of Dak's 89 mil cap hit down the road.
