There’s been a number of QBs taken after the first round that won a Super Bowl. Jalen Hurts was a second round pick. Both of Philly’s Super Bowl wins came with second round QBs. The QB that has the most Super Bowl wins of all time was a sixth round pick. Joe Montana won four Super Bowls and was a third round pick. Regardless who you have at QB you still need a great team to win it all. The last time the Cowboys used a first round pick on a QB he went 0-11 as a rookie because they had a bad team. You're right that a first round QB is not a guarantee. But it's also true that mid-late round QB's rarely win championships.
The last time Dallas used a first rounder on a QB, they won 3 Super-Bowls. In the last 30 years, Dallas has used precious little draft capital on the QB position, and has 3 decades of failure to show for it.
Would you not use a first rounder on a nose tackle because Mazi was a failure? Of course not. You place your bets and take your chances. You draft another NT if you don't like that one. At least you try. Dallas stopped trying at QB.
Dart is an unknown for sure. My guess is in 1-2 seasons, he will be a better QB than Dak, also younger and a lot cheaper.
Aikman’s Super Bowl wins came when they had all-time great teams. When the team declined and was getting knocked off in the playoffs he got booed. I would easily use a first rounder on a nose tackle if they were worthy. Mazi was never worthy, he was a reach because we had a need. This is one reason a lot of first round QBs fail. It’s because teams have a need and they reach.
