A reminder that Dak Prescott is the longest tenured starting QB in the NFL

You're right that a first round QB is not a guarantee. But it's also true that mid-late round QB's rarely win championships.

The last time Dallas used a first rounder on a QB, they won 3 Super-Bowls. In the last 30 years, Dallas has used precious little draft capital on the QB position, and has 3 decades of failure to show for it.

Would you not use a first rounder on a nose tackle because Mazi was a failure? Of course not. You place your bets and take your chances. You draft another NT if you don't like that one. At least you try. Dallas stopped trying at QB.

Dart is an unknown for sure. My guess is in 1-2 seasons, he will be a better QB than Dak, also younger and a lot cheaper.
There’s been a number of QBs taken after the first round that won a Super Bowl. Jalen Hurts was a second round pick. Both of Philly’s Super Bowl wins came with second round QBs. The QB that has the most Super Bowl wins of all time was a sixth round pick. Joe Montana won four Super Bowls and was a third round pick. Regardless who you have at QB you still need a great team to win it all. The last time the Cowboys used a first round pick on a QB he went 0-11 as a rookie because they had a bad team.

Aikman’s Super Bowl wins came when they had all-time great teams. When the team declined and was getting knocked off in the playoffs he got booed. I would easily use a first rounder on a nose tackle if they were worthy. Mazi was never worthy, he was a reach because we had a need. This is one reason a lot of first round QBs fail. It’s because teams have a need and they reach.

That’s the problem with a lot of fans they seem to think you have to use a first round pick on a QB to win a championship. Had Dak been a first round pick I don’t think fans would be as critical of him. Most of the QBs taken after the top 10 aren’t winning anything, so if you take a QB after the top 10, you’re taking a huge gamble. Lamar Jackson is one of the few QBs in recent years that’s had success being drafted after the top 10 but he hasn’t had playoff success. Jordan Love has had success, but he hasn’t gotten Green Bay to a Super Bowl yet and he had a real hot team in the playoffs a couple years ago. Josh Allen was a top five pick and although he’s been an excellent QB he hasn’t been able to get Buffalo over the hump in the playoffs.

It’s a big mistake to put it entirely on the QB. Many in Detroit blamed Matt Stafford for the Lions lack of success but as soon as he went to a loaded team, he immediately wins a Super Bowl. No way does Jalen Hurts win a championship if he wasn’t playing on such a great team. He’s good, but he certainly isn’t anything special, however he had a loaded team around him this past season. If you can build a great team, you can win a Super Bowl with a good but not great QB. There’s plenty of examples out there.

Montana and Brady were outliers

the vast majority of SBs are won by high first rd picks

So if you are serious about it you need to use one of them

BUT the number of high first rd QBs picked that bust is also way up there

Dallas was VERY lucky in getting Romo followed by Dak

QBs good enough to win the SB if there was a strong enough team put around them.

If you have the team, a superstar QB is not necessary.

However if you want to build a DYNASTY then one of the elites are necessary.

So you as GM have to decide what to go for: change the high picks for the elite QB or build a team good enough to win with just a very good QB.

There are few can't miss QBs;
last one was Luck. Lawrence was supposed to be another but is not

Personally, I would go and build the team and then use FA or maybe a high pick to get a QB good enough to finish the job

The last time the Cowboys showed their starting QB the door before finding a quality replacement was Troy Aikman and it led the five years of futility. If you’re not happy with Dak fine but to say he’s less than a mediocre QB is asinine. His career winning percentage, completion percentage and passer rating will tell you how ridiculous that comment is.
Really, will let’s ask Cowboy nation what do they think about the great Prescott from 2017 to present…..LOL!!!!

It does take a lot more than a great QB to win a championship- which is exactly why you cannot overpay a mediocre QB.

It's clear after 30 years that Dallas's strategy is not working.

We’ve had it a lot worse. There were three NFC East titles during that span including three straight 12-5 seasons. He led the league in TDs one year and came in second in league MVP. It hasn’t all been on him. Those that think he’s been the main problem, don’t have a clue.

As long as he keeps having 4k plus yards, Jerry and fans will be happy with the typical anointing of one Dak Prescott as the savior and king!!! Only to fall flat on his face in the playoffs!
More like:

If He keeps having 4k plus yards (he won't) His minions will have ammunition to torment Cowboy Fans. He is anointed on Hopium & Who Else yha gonna start . . . Only to do what Dak do, which is what all the Sober Cowboy Fans already knew would happen

Whether I’m ok with it or not is irrelevant. He’s here. After you said he wouldn’t be. Posters like AC and Ranching told you this and you still just would rather double down on wrong.
This argument always blows my mind

Having Dak on the Roster is the ultimate win for His Minions. Because the biggest Dak Fan Boy, Jerry, has made it so. The insanity has no limits

No one ever said that Dak would not be on the team. With Jerry as the owner no one could guarantee that. We all said Getting rid of Dak would be best for the team. The answer to that is obvious

Important fact from a Cowboy Fan:
Like you guys hated Rush for just winning games?
A delusional Dak Fan Boy resorting to Stats in order to gloss over the claim that He and other Dak Fan Boys hated Rush for nothing else then Winning games for their favorite teams:
The Rush that threw for 44 passing yards against your beloved Eagles?

When did I ever "hate" Rush? Because I said he wasn't good and he's a JAG?

The hill you guys die on is weird. You dying on a backup QB hill? Crazy....

I've read so many say "I don't hate Dak but...", then go on to say how much he sucks as a player.

I am not one of these people. Don't lump me in with them. I think he sucks as a player and I hate him.

First off I didn't make an argument....I made a statement....

Secondly....you might want to sit this one out. You can speak for yourself but not for others.....receipts are a *****.....

"Dak ain't coming back.

Learn how to spell Raiders backwards."

"I think Jerry telling CD that Dak isn't going to be signed is what got the deal done."

This one is my favorite this poster doubled down on stupid lol....

Hi, I’m from Monday morning after Week 1.

Spoiler Alert:

The Cowboys lose to the Browns and Dak still don’t have a deal.

So yeah sit this one out.

I don't think anyone was wondering what Risen thought about Dak today or any other day but I could be wrong.

Of the ten highest paid NFL quarterbacks in average annual value, which one is not overpaid and why?

Why did they need to make a serious attempt in the first round? Did you want them to use their top pick on a QB in 2023 with Dak just coming off leading the league in TDs and was second in the MVP voting? Did you want them to use their top pick on a QB at number 12 this past April after just signing him to a mega deal? If you think he’s the main reason we’re struggling in the playoffs and another QB is going to overcome the deficiencies we have, you’re wrong.

Patrick Mahomes wouldn’t win a Super Bowl with the teams we’ve had under Dak. We’ve seen what’s happened to Mahomes when it’s all on him and his defense can’t stop anyone. I don’t think Dak has ever looked as bad in the playoffs as Mahomes did in the Super Bowl this past February. Look at Lamar Jackson in the playoffs. You can’t just throw it all on your QB.
Say what you will...mahommes appeared in the super bowl you claim he sucked in. And a team you say sucked.

How close has dak been?

Think about it before you reply.

The word "Hate" is used in the context of this Message Board. So do not play dumb. You are a Hater. Now with that Strawman out of the way

Rush being a Jag or not Good was never the argument. The argument was always about the fact that the Cowboys team assembled could and did win without Dak. This argument included the Cap savings would also improve the team across the board

Having been proven wrong you and your ilk chose to demean Rush's accomplishments and denounce Him as a legitimate Cowboys QB in order to elevate Dak's importance
