If you are looking for a reason to be hesitant on Myles Jack or Jaylon Smith..

Kuechly is getting surgery this week for a torn labrum. Thomas Davis played with a broken arm.

LBs get hurt in the NFL. Sean Lee isn't soft or injury prone.

I would draft a LB every year and if we ended up with MJack or JSmith I wouldn't cry.

Lee is injury prone, whether you want to believe it or not.

The huge difference is Luke played with a torn labrum, and Davis played with a broken arm. Don't forget about those types of things!!!

What is this? Supposed to be a shot at Lee's heart or something? If he could have played he would have played. I don't even think thats worth discussion.

I cannot think of any correlation between the rd picked and early retirement that would be causal (rather than may be more likely to start, play more snaps)

That is a big thing.

They would be more snaps because they would be better players, in general not in all cases, and part of being a better player in Football and LB is giving it 100% and throwing caution to the wind which can result in more injuries especially when you are going against RBs that sometimes have a head of steam, Sometimes going against TE's that are bigger and of course working through blocks of OLinemen to get in the backfield.

I hope the moral of the story is not to pass up on good LBs and only take mediocre to crappy LBs in the draft at lower spots so they can stay healthy longer in the NFL even if that means they don't get as much snaps and do not create as much impact.

Agree, but then the argument would simply be that your starting LB is likely to retire early (despite where you drafted him).

Even more ammunition to DRAFT A QB. They are protected by the league and the rules...they have longevity....it is the most important position on the field. AND.....AND.....I hope we are never drafting in the top 5 again...so since we are there...take care of this position and give the organization stability at QB between Romo/rookie for the next 15 years!

How is this ammunition? Have you seen the list of quarterbacks drafted in the top 10 since 2007? Its even more disturbing lol. You don't even have to go back that far. You can just go to 2011......

I am talking from a durability perspective. I don't think the excuse of "we are not drafting a QB because look at the list of busts" is going to cut it with me.

Dallas charges a premium for their product. They pay people a premium to scout and coach. We should not be drafting top 5 now or anytime soon....so since we are...take advantage of that and set the position of for the next 10 plus years. That is the job of the front office and coaches to pick the right person

They will be drafting there again if Romo gets hurt. And with the way everyone is insisting we take a quarterback....it seems like he will be getting hurt sooner rather than later.

I'm sure the Browns pay their scouts premium money to tell them to waste draft picks on Tim Couch, Brandon Weeden and Johnny Manziel....it happens.

I'm not saying avoid quarterback because of pasts busts. I'm just saying if you're using "durability" as an excuse then the number amount of busts in that 1st round is about on the same level of ridiculousness. Neither is a valid excuse. Especially Patrick Willis. He played 9 years lol. I mean goodness lol.

Here the kicker,

I believe all LBers drafted in 2002 and before that are also retired. Get that? ALL of them!!!

:D
