He did not enter the Draft. We all know this. It is now too late for him to declare this year, but not too late for him to play in the NFL. If I were Andrew I would ask the Panthers to select AJ Green with the first pick and some OL for rounds 2 and 3. I would ask them to somehow retain Steve Smith.

I would tell them if they did that I would go ahead and hire an agent so that I was in the Supplemental Draft.

Just wondering really why no player guaranteed the #1 pick has ever thought of doing this if you're resigned to the fact you're going to the worst team in the NFL.

Interesting.

So the Panthers would give up their 2012 1st and second probably, if not more to make sure no other team outbids them. Luck also potentially takes the chance of losing money. But why keep Steve Smith ?

Because Steve Smith is a beast.

the panthers just drafted 2 good young QBs this past draft, why draft a third one?
the panthers just need to stay the course with the young QBs they have already, maybe trade one and grow and groom the other. there is no need to keep drafting QBs.

Clausen is good, and the other guy from Cinncinati is good as well

I'm guessing there may be so
E sort of rules in place to prevent that, otherwise that would be a major loophole.

Was. Not is.

He's still a beast. You'd have a down year if you had to work with the likes of Matt Moore and Jimmy Clausen with lame duck ownership too.

They would actually only give up their 1st pick in 2012.

In other words they get 2 overall number one picks in back to back drafts, but they play the same year.

Keep Steve Smith because he can still play and you need soem veteran presence on a team.

I'd trade Clausen for a pick and prepare for the future.

theres definitely a rule in place that prohibits this. Otherwise any favorite for the 1st overall pick (especially a QB) with decent brains would do this. The team picking first would still probably be bad though. Even with the extra picks.

Plus you loose so much money.

Point me to the rule then, because there is no way one exists.

Lose, not loose. Lose is a verb, loose is an adjective.

Yeah, I knew that lol. Just a mistake.

And I don't know if there is. Im just speculating cause any favorite to go 1 would do that.

No, They have no good QBs. They are drafting #1 for a reason. Their young WRs are getting better, BUT their WR coach is going to Denver with Fox along with some other coaches.

IIRC, The worst (less 5 wins) teams have the first shot (which one of them would take him). If they all match a bid the worst team gets him. But I would think that the loophole is that the winning bid CAN give up more than just the first rounder.

Then so on and so forth until the playoff teams.

None ever have though. If one did it, maybe there would be a rule, but none ever have.

The winning bid goes to the team bidding the highest round. If all 32 teams bid round 1 it goes to the worst team that bid. In this case, it is Carolina by 2 games.

That first part..I am not positive of. I think you can pull a Ricky Williams kind of thing here.

Smith is beaten up and beaten down. Trade him while he has at least a little worth. He really has no interest in playing for the Panthers anymore though.

Nobody that has watched Clausen wants him anymore. He is pathetic.

There is leadership on the team between Davis and Williams, and Beason, not to mention your favorite position...Kasay.

The perfect scenario for them would be to sign Michael Vick.

If they were to do that, they'd bid a first round pick maybe a second My question is, what if another team bid a first round pick and second for Luck aswell? Where would he go and what would happen? How do you determine which pick is higher.

Go through all that trouble for AJ Green and a couple of rookie O-lineman ?

It ain't worth it.

There are going to be plenty of receivers and lineman in free agency who are not only young enough, but are going to have experience, which is what Luck could use more than what Green and/or any rookie linemen are going to bring to the table. Remember, there are potentialy 215 unrestricted free agents who are entering their 6th season ( more or less because I don't know how many signed long term contracts last year as opposed to their qualifying offers ) in the league but because of the no cap years rules, they didn't go anywhere last season ( only 1 sign with another team ). That's not counting the other players who are entering their 5th seasons and most likely are going to be free agents as well under the new CBA.

Keeping Steve Smith is a good first step, but signing somebody like, for example, Vincent Jackson, who will not be back wtih the Chargers next season ( bad blood ) and is very familiar with Rivera, is a natural fit. Jackson is still a young player and would produce more than AJ Green would. They could also go after somebody like Carl Nicks from the Saints in order to address their O-line problems right away.

I am positive. A Supplemental pick only costs you one round. It goes to the team picking the highest round or if the same round the team who in the regular draft holds the highest pick. No one can outbid Carolina for Luck.

But is there a rule to say that you can only offer one pick ? That is the part I can't really remember. I guess I could look at the rule book, but it is upstairs and I am feeling super lazy tonight. Long day brother.
