A Team Leader has to step up

Bob, I am curious to who you would select as our few leaders.

Greg Ellis, Terrence Newman, Bradie James, Tony Romo, hell, even TO, he's always trying to fire up his teammates, I could even throw in Marc Colombo's nasty demeanor on the field and his role as 'enforcer' for our offense

edit: am going to throw Jason Ferguson's name into the mix because the young players on D seem to really respond to him

:bang2: greg ellis being a leader is the epitome of what is wrong with this team. soft and slightly above average with no mean streak.

Having a guy on the field that others can look to as an example of preparation, emotion and desire can truly help, tho. The Ravens have great talent, but they feed off Ray's preparation and his emotion. I can't stand Merriman, but his teammates eat him up.

Talent is the most important thing, but leadership can mold a team's attitude, I think.

I totally agree with you and excellent examples too. But we must remember, leaders are not picked. Yes you can go out an say "hey you are our leader", but that does not mean that person has it end him. A leader must show his attributes through the things you have mentioned and more. To me one of the biggest things for a leader is a lack of fear, a skill in motivations, and a stron loyalty to self and team. With these plus what you have stated before, this leader we are looking for has the confidence to speak on behalf of his team, to motivate those who have doubt, to confront those who place stumbling blocks in the team success and also bring them on board with the program and lastly, he must always stand tall in adversity and always to the front. That way a team will always believe there is a chance for success.
I disagree with the notion this so call leader should come from the defensive side of the ball. You need leaders on both side and contrary to what alot of people think, T.O. has what it takes to be a strong leader on this team. If he can only get on his own way. He has the drive, the motivation and he can put a team on his back in terms work ethic on and off the field, his passion to be the best, and most of all his competitive spirit. I think we will see this out of him this yr. Hopefully, he will prove me right.
