There he was. Wade, looking glum.
And there he was, Gary Kubiak, looking self-assured, smart and all-business.

One will go home and cry and whine we "are not prime time."

The other will go to the office and watch film and kick booty for those who need it and offer a pat on the back for those who excelled.

This is not a post about the game (or lack of it) last night or this preseason so far.
Preseason results are like polls taken by special-interest groups. The tell little.
Preseason games do not reflect what talent is on the field and how smart the strategy is. These games simply reflect how some rooks or second-year players function in "real game" conditions.
Whether the Boys lost by a couple of points or by 40 is not important in a preseason game.

But what is telling is a glum Wade who for some reason feels compelled to be down and downcast over a lousy preseason game. For the world to see.
That might be his modus operandi this season. Lose, complain and whine about how the talent has not jelled. How some players did not step up. How the game plan went awry.

Wade, please, this season, take time to look in the mirror, Mr. Defensive Genius. See in reflection of your Mr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde personalities. High one day doing the YMCA dance, downcast another, muttering about "prime time."

Kubiak, and others of his ilk and of hardened nature, on the other hand, stay focused. They do not look glum after the game. If they do, that is their consistent demeanor. They have their game faces on and go look at the film and reassess their talent and starters.

Mr. Phillips, please, this season show some consistency in your demeanor. Your fist-pumping and alternating with your hands to your forehead got old the first season.
Show some toughness. This seson call out players individually. that is what any high school or college or NFL coach will do. Yes, calling out rookies is not the wisest thing, but in the real season, do it to the starters for once in your life. Otherwise you remain the soft (albeit leaner) nice guy who players do not feel accountable to.

Again, this post is not about the game. it is about our coach who sulks this much in the preseason. What will he do in the regular season, hari kari?

Stay tuned for As the Wade Turns this season.

Whining and complaining? He sure wasn't happy, nor whould he be. With Wade, it doesn't matter how he reacts to a situation, a bunch of people won't like it. Just admit that you don't like WP and be done with it instead of going through your "columnist" routine.

A poor routine at that. He's so embarrassing!!!

Sure, we want them to play better and look good ALL THE TIME but this is what preseason is for, PRACTICE so we do look good and play well when the REAL SEASON starts.

There's also an axiom that says, "you practice how you play". I'm not ready to just throw-up my hands and lower the lifeboats, but I also don't think it's going to be just as simple as flipping a switch as a majority here seem to think.

No, living in a place called Mary Land.
That's embarrassing. :D
Hey, hey, hey...
take it easy on the Old Line State...it's a wonderful place to live! :)

So are you going to write a silly little thing like this after Dallas beats Houston in the regular season. You know when the game actually counts?

Probably not.

Heck no. Dallas 35, Houston 21

The point (which went way over many's heads) was this:

The preseason game meant nothing.
But the coach's lack of leaderships skills (IMHO) does not portend good things.
I expect this team to win this season and consistently, but because of the team's talent level, not the great shakes of the HC, bless his little pea-pickin heart.

I thot it was the Traitor State. Or maybe I is thinking about Rhode Island, another nearby minor state.
I have no doubt it is a great place to live (yeah, right). but it needs to change its name from Mary Land to something hefter like . . . TEXAS!:)

Or Diminutive Texas.
:)
