A Thread That Both Skins and Cowboys Should Use For Fuel

Carolina's home field advantage isnt as great as many would like to believe.
I really believe if the Commanders had bothered to show up offensively against the Seahawks, they would have won convincingly and then smoked the Panthers in Carolina.

The Panthers were one dimensional at that point and their D was pretty banged up.

I wont blame injuries on the Commanders playoff loss. I will blame the lack of talent at the positions where they were injured. Same could be said for the Cowboys. The OL injuries really played a major part in their second half collapse, IMO.

I will say that if Philly played full strength last season including TO, I think the would have won it all. If the Giants had some consistency on D and at the QB position, they would have had a chance to at least get to the show.

Looking forward to a brutal season next year for the NFCE.

I respectfully disagree about Philly. With TO, Westbrook, and McNabb their record was 4-3 going into the game against the Commanders (which started the TO suspension). Dallas smoked them at home. I think they may have made a wild card playoff run if the collapse hadn't been expedited by TO and McNabb/Westbrook had stayed healthy, but I don't think their defense was playing to the level of last year and years past. Remember last year they owned the NFC East. This year they weren't showing any ownage even when completely healthy.

The NFC East is up for grabs again next year...anybody who says there is a clear favorite is a homer IMO.

I agree with that. Each team has some glaring weaknesses that really need addressed. Probably the most complete team right now is the Skins, at least starter-wise. They have serious depth issues, and with little money for FAs, that's gonna be tough for them to address. If someone goes down, or Brunell doesn't play his brains out, they could be in trouble, though. NY and Dallas both have problems at LB, and NY has huge problems in the secondary. Philly has huge deficiencies on the D-line, OLB, and WR. They're the weakest team, before the offseason, IMO. As you mentioned, they weren't that impressive before TO's suspension and Donovan's injury. Everyone just expects that they'll return to form as a matter of habit, but that's faulty thinking, IMO. They have some serious shortcomings, that could never be exploited before, because the NFC, and more importantly the NFC East, sucked. They have alot of money to work with, so they should address some things, but that's alot of holes to plug up ina single season.

But lets remember the injuries they started the season with, Pinkston out for the season (forcing rookie Reggie Brown to be the #2 WR), TO injured groin, Buckhalter injured knee (again) out for the season, WR Justin Jenkins (ACL) out for the season... and that was all before the season started.

McNabb was injured in week 1. Played through it and the injury bug started to pile up on him.

The Eagles may have lost more key offensive and ST players early in season than any other team in the NFL ( Jenkins was depth however). Akers early injury.

They had no chance of winning the division before they even played Dallas. The team was decimated.
 
Ranking football teams for 2006-2007 season in february of 2006 is sorta like picking the winning car of the Indy 500 while they are all just chasis's. Sorta like picking Miss America when the contestents are 3 y.o.. Sorta like eating Ice Cream while its still milk fat.

no ones really made any moves, lost a Shaun Alexander or signed a LeCharles Bentley. I mean come on. All he can do at this point is give you a final 2005-2006 season ranking, Cause no one knows whats gunna happen. We could sign Bentley, Hope, T.O. (god I hope not), Wayne, Hutchinson and Runyon. You tell me we would not be favorites with all that.

I see your points about the Eagles. The great thing is that there is no doormat in the NFC East. Lets face it, since Reid has been in Philly all of the other NFC East teams have pretty much been his ***** except for last year. Its great to see that with the return of Parcells, Gibbs, and Coughlin, all of the other NFC East teams are going to really make Philly earn everything they get.

For so many years in the NFC East, Phoenix/Arizona was the team you almost had to feel sorry for. Now all four teams are going to be going cutthroat at each other, and it should make the season that much more exciting next year.

Its really going to be a chess game, seeing how all the teams draft and move in the FA period. Good coaching and gameplanning is going to make the difference, because you can't say that any of the teams have an obvious talent advantage over the other.

I have noticed that Coughlins Giants have started out both of the past two seasons extremely strong, then faltered when it counted both offensively and defensively. I question his ability to coach and win the big games.

Reid, Gibbs, and Parcells know what it takes to get to the SB...Coughlin has a history of playoff failures on his record.
 
Here's to a great battle for the division this season. Anyone would be silly not to expect the Eagles to rebound somewhat, the Giants to get some depth defensively, the Cowboys to get even better defensively and more consistent offensively, not to mention the Commanders and their need for depth.
 
I have no doubts that the NFCE will be the most competitive division in the NFC.

Any one of the four teams could very well be in the SB next season.
