Sniff, sniff, sniff.

September, our greatest month is over. It is important to get off to a fast start to any season and build momentum, but I really am not kidding. We have a far better winning % in September than any other month. Some NFL Owners think we have an unfair advantage on Thanksgiving. It is nothing like the advantage we seem to have in September. Much of that is credited to Tom Landry who was murder on opposing teams in September.

The futility in the Redzone tonight was painful to watch. Roy should have caught the pass on the fade, but Tony should put it up higher too. I really don't understand calling the same play twice on back to back calls. They need to work on that play. The Fade is not my favorite pass play, mainly because we do not run it well.

Great 2nd half adjustments. You cannot applaud enough when you see the Defense force 4 straight 3 and outs. I'm not Wade fan, but he is 3-0 on Monday Night Football. Wish we had some more games this season. We might need his good fortune on MNF. By the way, that was the Cowboys 42nd victory on MNF, extending their all time record.

Sacks and takeaways showed up this week. Not only that but a pick 6 by Newman. It's a very good sign for this team. The best sign for me is the OL and the holes they are opening. Maybe it's just me but I heard Hudson Houck was a terrible hire. A Jerry hire. Well, if it was, thank you Jerry. 214 yards rushing and 2 weeks in a row over 200 is fantastic. This week without Barber. Kudos tot he OL.

Except for the false start penalties. Be serious, do they do that to torture us? It works. I swear my guts get tied in knots every time. The John Phillips one hurt the most because I felt we could punch it in. I wish we took more chances on 4th and goal, and fewer on 3rd and goal from the 1. I love an Offense who can punch a D in the face. Run the ball please.

We have now won 8 straight games against the Panthers in the Regular season. It is our longest current winning streak against any team. Too bad we don't have much chance of playing them next year at this point. It would be in Carolina where we have never lost. But we need them to step up. I don't see it with Delhomme at QB.

Speaking of QB Tony Romo survived a week I wouldn't wish on a dog. No TDs tonight, but did he ever do a fine job. I will be in the minority. I loved the pass to Choice after the scramble. That is a heads up play. Yes, it is dangerous, but it is also cerebral. Besides it worked.

Downer of the night is Felix getting injured. Back to back weeks we have RBs get dinged. Which brings me to Tashard Choice. He is not only durable, he is a workhorse and he produces. He is a starting quality RB and he is somehow a 3rd string guy on this team. It is unreal.

I keep saying it, Jason Witten is the best TE in the NFL. His block on Choice's late run was stellar. He also can catch the ball a little bit. Targeted 9 times, and he caught all 9.

Special Teams sure seems to have awakened. They are not only pinning teams deep, they are giving us good field position when we get the ball. Folk missed a FG but it was hardly a chip shot. That may have been the worst part of the Special Teams play all night.

After back to back weeks of 4 penalties, we had 9 tonight. 1 more than the entire young season to date. Good thing we moved the ball and racked up some yardage.

Speaking of yardage, Carolina did not get over 400 yards as some feared. It was 271. Dallas dominated the time of possession this week by almost 15 minutes. Too bad the score did not reflect it. It would be nice to have the Offense and Defense show up in the same week.

All in all I will take it. I just wish we still had some September games left. Green Day has a song called "Wake Me Up When September Ends." The lyrics are kind of fitting for this team. It mentioned 7 years and 20 years. 7 years being the Bill and Wade eras and 20 years being the Jerry era and it mentions stars as well during the chorus and rain falling from them and pain. Sounds like our tears a little bit. Or maybe I'm just tired. Either way, here's the song.

September ends...2-1.

Good points. #1 Rushing team...how about that?! If we can keep these horses healthy, watch out. Team built for the later months, not just September.

Nice post. You sound a little bit like my drunken step dad who was always much friendlier after a few drinks. You sound a little philosophical. I'm happy for the win. The boys were scrappy tonite. I was worried at half time. But they fought. It wasn't pretty. There's still alot to be fixed. Sheesh 2nd and goal and you;ve been running at will and you throw up two fades??? Oh well, coaches are human too and the second fade would've been glorious had it worked. The D showed up tonite finally. Romo took some nice sacs. Good. Be a gamer Tony. Peace.

November has been our greatest month under Romo. He's 11-1 (11 straight wins) and has a passer rating of 119.2 in November.

By the way, we have only three October games this season and five in November.

Felix keep getting dinged up does bother me some Hostile. Felix is starting to remind me of a thurman thomas type player, when you really need him in a tough fought game, he keeps getting dinged up.

Yes, loved the offensive line, the way they played and slugged it out. Sure Columbo got a penalty, but he was trying to protect Romo when he scrambled on one play.

Loved when the defense finally showed intensity, etc after the first half. From what i heard, Romo and Witten had some things to say at halftime as the team was coming out and some dallas defender said something to the defense too. The cowboys have the team seperated in the locker room offense and defense, so possibly they can work on schemes at haltime etc.

Loved the way Romo ate the ball when he had too, scrambled when he had to, while protecting the football and finally after halftime started throwing some nice passes.

Loved choice, but again, felix keep getting dinged up is bothernig me some.

Just a tad concerned on the missed field goal, heard was a high snap a little and mcbrair had a little trouble getting it down.

Whatever was said in the locker room to me, really set the tempo. To me the team come out fired up more offensive and defensive and took it to carolina.

Finally, I kept telling everyone, give romo some time, this is his 42 start as a starter. I saw some improvement with fake handoffs etc too.

Bennett, Austin and Hurd to a degree looked alittle lost to me.

Still concerned about ken hamlin some, dont know whats up with him yet.

Yet, a win is a win, and it counts, hopefully we can build some momentum.

And barber can play sunday if healthy.

Beuhler is really helping the Cowboys isnt he.

One more little thing that is bothering me, Hurd had another penalty on punt return, hopefully that will be fixed by coach joe.

I didnt get to listen to the radio and announcers, but on one play flozell jumped, do you think flozell jumped because the defender moved or do you think flozell jumped because romo changed the snap count and flozell didnt hear it in the huddle due to his bad hearing in one ear? I have heard reports that romo on impulses sometimes changes snap count.

Nice Hostile.

The slow 1st half scoring (though the drives looked great most of the time) was likely TR being overly cautious after being tarred and feathered all week. I guess that will put some bandwagoneers back aboard for a week.
The Cowboys are leading the league so far in rushing and killing the run since Tampa. Containing Smith and DeAngelo was a great accomplishment.
Roy had a good game.
Crayton did great on returns, our special teams are now a real strength with Beuhler.
Victor had 2 sacks and a ff, great job by that guy.
OL was bruising the defense, last week too.
Tony did exactly what he needed to do~ work off the run. It was working and we stuck w/ it. If Felix the Cat could stay healthy I could see him get a couple hundred yards in a game at times.
Witten was clutch.
TChoice ran hard, love that guy.
Ratliff is still a beast.
The pressure from the middle and opposite side will eventually force teams into opening opportunities for DWare.

Special teams on this club are fantastic.

The panthers in the 3rd qtr decided to just take a knee even when the ball was only a yard deep in the endzone because they were not even reaching the 20. Ball and watkins have been great covering punts also.

but to see a teams staff tell a guy right before the kick to take a knee if he is in the endzone is something.

Hats off to the guys on those squads and joe decamillis. It was a field position game and our special teams whipped carolinas tail in this department.

Which brings me to Tashard Choice. He is not only durable, he is a workhorse and he produces. He is a starting quality RB and he is somehow a 3rd string guy on this team. It is unreal.

I love Barber, I was the first and for a time the only one that knew he was the better RB out of him and Julius, I kept saying that he was NFL ready when he got into the league, he did not look good in his very first preseason as a rookie, so I did not have nothing to back up my claim, until the season started, and eventually everyone came to see, that I was right.

I also love Felix, he will shake you out of your socks, you think you have an angle on him, and he makes that angle disappear. He just has to stay healthy, and learn to pick up the blitz.

But Choice is the one, he is as you said Hos, a workhorse, he can carry the load, he also has some quickness, and great vision, picks up the blitz, and can catch. I have been saying since we drafted TC that he is the best RB we have on our roster. We paid Barber, and Felix is the gamebreaker, that is why TC is 3rd string, but he is a quality rb, would be a starter anywhere else

One thing that strikes me this season is that we are not the passing team that we were with TO.....We are starting to look like the 90's cowboys where we ran the ball first and made pass plays second. I think players and coaches need to look at some old game film and accept what has been given two them. Our triplets this year are Barber, Choice and Jones.

Great post as always.

I loved the cross-field toss to Choice. It shows me that he's not going to be timid or gunshy out there. After last week and all the "ball protection" talk going on, he still goes out there with the confidence to sling it and try to make a play -- however unorthodox it may be.

I like Romo to take risks...just high percentage risks. The heave to Choice was a perfect example.

he is #3 because he is number 3.....Felix and Barber are better....if Felix learns to block and can stay healthy he could be top 2 RB in the league......and Barber is better blocker and runs like a bull......not taking away from Choice but dont discount the others ......and i agree ..he would start on alot of teams but he is #3 here llegitimately

Actually, it reminds me of the old Madden forward-reverse-forward-reverse video replays he would do during games with the spinner dial.

Either that or Felix is a Jedi and the force is strong with him :)
