"Now is when Dallas Cowboys should be on 'Hard Knocks’"

By NEWY SCRUGGS

Our GM's contributions are in bold by me.

"Owner Jerry Jones’ roll of the dice to trade for troubled cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones blows up in his face. Jones was reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and stays out of trouble for a whopping 41 days before fighting with a team-appointed baby sitter ... err, bodyguard, at a Dallas hotel.

"Pacman" Jones is suspended indefinitely by Mr. Goodell and enters an alcohol rehabilitation facility. The prospect of him ever playing another game in a Cowboys uniform is bleak.

Pro Bowl quarterback
Tony Romo breaks his pinkie. During Romo’s first game out of action, 40-year-old backup Brad Johnson did his best Vinny Testaverde impersonation by throwing three interceptions to one touchdown in a 20-point loss to the lowly St. Louis Rams.

Defensive coordinator Brian Stewart is scapegoated by the league’s worst general manager, who happens to be the owner of the club. B-Stew’s ability to call the plays is reportedly taken away and given to the head coach. Players complain Stewart has too much in the defensive game plan.

Special teams coach Bruce Read keeps his job despite making history in the Cowboys’ overtime loss to Arizona. It was the first time an NFL game was decided on a blocked punt that resulted in a touchdown. Oh yeah, the punter’s foot was broken in the process. Despite two years of ineptness, Read stays on and gets "help" from other Cowboys assistants.

The NFL’s highest paid assistant coach is exposed. Offensive coordinator Jason Garrett looked a lot better calling the plays in 2007 with Tony Sparano on the sidelines helping him. Sparano is now the coach of the Miami Dolphins, whose offense is ranked 11th in the NFL despite not having seven Pro Bowlers at his disposable, like Garrett’s Cowboys.

Garrett forgets to give rookie sensation Felix Jones a carry in a loss to the Commanders. Decisions like this seem to doom his chances for replacing Phillips as the next coach.

Players take the owner to the cleaners by getting millions in new contracts and underperforming. Left tackle Flozell Adams is seen as the main culprit.

Injuries that the team avoided in 2007 are now an epidemic. Terence Newman, safety Roy Williams, McBriar, Kyle Kosier, Pat Watkins, Deon Anderson, Kevin Burnett, Anthony Spencer, Felix Jones and Romo miss games with different aliments."

As bad as Garrett has been "exposed" his offense is still #2 in the NFL.

Yeah, how bout that and we'll be just fine when Romo, FJ, and Kozier return along with the addittion of RW. We may not lose a game after the bye and I'm serious about that.. Injuries play a HUGE roll!!!!

I don't know about Newy, but what he's saying isn't at all off target:
He's right on point one: Pacman is a bum and Jerry's halfway house mentality is still failing pay dividends. From that clown Spellman, to Tank and Pacman. None have lived up to expectations.

He's right on point two: Brad Johnson looks lousy.

Point three is questionable.

He's simply making a statement on point four: Our ST coach is lousy and still has a job.

Point five: Yes Garrett is stumbling. He's made some blunders and that ranking along with the teams record could very easily plummet in the next few weeks with the product they're putting on the field. If things remain like this throughout the season, what are opinions of Garrett going to be then?

Past accomplishments fade as things get worse.
