A WR Option Noone is talking about

We need route runners who can create separation. Period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very true. As far as we can tell,we currently have not 1 WR on the roster that can create separation on a consistent basis. That must change fast. Maybe Switzer...but we just dunno yet, plus he's a slot guy. Must get a big time well rounded receiver that can do it all well. Love Dez,but he vanishes when we need him most.. His routes are hit and miss.TWILL is up and down. We need Paul Richardson(Seatte) and I think DJ Moore(Maryand). Then say bye to Williams and make Dez take a pay cut OR BE CUT.

Hey Dan, what do you think about Equanamious St. Brown? I think he's a really interesting height-weight-speed guy held back by an awful Irish offense.

He gets discounted because I don't know what to think. He could be the best of them, he could be useless.

He might be one of my most polarizing prospects this year. With quality, consistent QB play he could've been in competition for the 1st WR off the board.

Obviously that hasn't happened, so he now might last until the 3rd round.

Can't wait to see him at the combine.

Problem is, the only route runners we have are at TE and slot. Which means we don't have anyone to stretch the field and open up the middle.

No offense to Dez,but he cannot carry Michael Irvins JOCK. I want a well rounded wr to wear 88....Dez is awesome in the red zone, but otherwise..he vanishes.

OMG, they're not even close to being in the same conversation. And never were.
Mind you..I wanted SO BAD for Dez to blossom into that guy,but he never did,and won't. Is he good? Yes..but he goes MIA too often and so we need a guy that can separate and run routes. The production doesn't equal his pay or his diva routine..its gettin old... But anywho...we need a receiver thats complete.

Dez has/had the physical skillset to be that good. However, he just wouldn't put any effort into routes and pretty much anything else w/o the ball.

I feel for the kid. I actually think he's a good dude, who just lacks direction. If Dez had had a hard-nosed coach, one who benched him if he didn't do his job, he might've been an all time great WR. Just didn't get the training and the tough love coaching.

Its a shame. Like you said, had he worked to hone his craft/route running..then we would be talking about a SB more than likely. I question his desire to be great and put the team first. Its between the ears ...thats his issue. Irvin was no faster than Dez..its that he desired to not only be the best, but understood what it took to BE the best. He put the work in and had the drive. We must get a guy that is complete.

Let's not forget Dez played somewhat hurt last year and Dak had some games where his accuracy vanished.

Dez played at a pro bowl level the 2nd half of 2016 so let's hope him and Dak sync back up for next season.

The issue is that, with as many miles as he has on the tires, I don't think Dez's injury issues are going away. And Dak's accuracy is still to be seen.

Even then, I believe Dez led the league in dropped passes, which is tough to correlate with either health or Dak.

I honestly think he's just a receiver dependent on physical ability, and that physical ability is starting to fade.

I'm a fan of drafting him. He seems very underrated.

Dez is as guilty as many today are...he drank his hype, but failed to invest in it as he progressed. He's two to three seasons behind his on bell curve.

Drops were bad this year for sure, but doesn't seem to be a regular thing for him.

He's not very far removed from playing at a very high level, we just obviously need to QB to put the ball where it needs to go.

NO, he did not lead the league in dropped passes. He had 6, on 132 targets. Marquise Lee had 8 on only 96 targets to lead the league.

See this link: https://www.foxsports.com/nfl/stats...CEIVING&opp=0&sort=11&qualified=1&sortOrder=0

And you can look up a video of all of Dez's drops, on one of those the defensive back nearly totally shielded Dez with his body, that would be a very tough catch. On a couple of others he had to stretch out for the pass and didn't catch it, again, a touch catch to make. Two others he caught the ball and it was knocked loose by the defender, but he did have the ball in his possession before that.

At the money he's getting, should he make the tough catch? Sure he should, but a lot of people here would trade away half the draft picks for Julio Jones, but he had 7 drops with only 16 more targets, so he drop percentage was 4.729%, Dez's was 4.545%, better than Julios.

Dez's %age of completion wasn't that good, related to his poor route running and not getting open enough, and criticizing him for that is fair, but drops is not the issue...

Since this is the draft thread, have to put in a plug for a player from my college Stephen F. Austin - John Franklin, DE. He's been invited the combine, for a small college player that means a lot. He's 6-4 and 278 lbs. Don't have any 40 time on him, but per a recent game:

SFA defensive end John Franklin left his mark in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. The senior was able to wow scouts, general managers, and other NFL personnel.

Franklin led the national team with 5 solo tackles, along with a pass breakup in the process. He was one of the more impressive players on the field causing problems for the rushing game as well. The national team came out on top 23-0.

Worth a look...

maybe it is just me, but I don't feel like Dallas offense gurus put their players in the best position to succeed. I don't feel Dez, Twill, Butler or Beasly are the problem.
Dallas runs lots of single back 3 WR sets.
Dallas needs Dez on the side with single coverage running skinny posts and slants, hoping he can beat his man after the catch.
Beasley and/or Switzer need to be on the other side slot running combo rubs, picks, and clear out patterns forcing 3dbs to cover 2 in a zone.
TWill needs to make his $$$ across the middle.
Butler needs to take the top off.
JWitten needs to do his chain moving square in/out to use his big body as a shield alternately Hanna/Rico need to run seam routes when they can get LB coverage.

Sometimes it seems like Dallas just doesn't understand where the strength of their own players is at, and tries to get the player to fit the scheme instead of modifying the scheme to fit the players.

100%...I've been screaming this for years. While Dak has to get more accurate and Dez has to clean up the drops, the OC has to get better as well.

- Dez is his best on in breaking routes (slants, posts, ins etc...and it's like they refuse to utilize that strength)
- Switzer has the tools to be a pro bowl caliber slot WR, and he barely sniffed the field last year. Can we not run 4 WR sets and get Switz and Beas in the slot?
- More designed throws to Zeke?
