After all my research, I am convinced Aaron Donald is the safest, most sure fire pick of all the prospects projected to go in the 1st round. He also happens to address a need for us. If we have to give up our 1st and 3rd to move up to 11 to take him before the Giants do, we should do it.
I think this is a no brainier. Our defense was worst in the league, AD and Melton will instantly improve our DL. In my mind, 3rd rounders are hit and miss. We may have hit with T. Will last year, but this is a different year. AD has such a great work ethic and is just so relentless, hungry, and good at being a 3-tech that it would be hard to envision our Tampa 2 succeeding next season without him. AD looks to me like a combination of a young Warren Sapp, La Roi Glover, and pre-injury scam artist Ratliff. I can see AD being a humble cornerstone Pro Bowl player (like Witten) respected throughout the league. For someone like that I would gladly give up a 3rd.
On top of that, the interior pressure he would provide is nearly perfect for our division. With 2 statue-like starting QB's (Manning and Foles), and a more judicious RGIII who will look to stay in the pocket more, AD's quickness will cause a lot of havoc.
If it turns out we don't trade up and the Giants pick him, I would implement a contingency plan and draft Zack Martin and play him at OG. While AD dominated the Senior Bowl, both AD and ZM practiced against each other 1-on-1 and it was reported that ZM was the only OL who was competitive against AD. The last thing I want to see is AD blowing up our offense for the next 10 years.
Sorry for the long post. I just wanted to put my 2 cents out there.
