Aaron Donald needs to be our pick

After all my research, I am convinced Aaron Donald is the safest, most sure fire pick of all the prospects projected to go in the 1st round. He also happens to address a need for us. If we have to give up our 1st and 3rd to move up to 11 to take him before the Giants do, we should do it.

I think this is a no brainier. Our defense was worst in the league, AD and Melton will instantly improve our DL. In my mind, 3rd rounders are hit and miss. We may have hit with T. Will last year, but this is a different year. AD has such a great work ethic and is just so relentless, hungry, and good at being a 3-tech that it would be hard to envision our Tampa 2 succeeding next season without him. AD looks to me like a combination of a young Warren Sapp, La Roi Glover, and pre-injury scam artist Ratliff. I can see AD being a humble cornerstone Pro Bowl player (like Witten) respected throughout the league. For someone like that I would gladly give up a 3rd.

On top of that, the interior pressure he would provide is nearly perfect for our division. With 2 statue-like starting QB's (Manning and Foles), and a more judicious RGIII who will look to stay in the pocket more, AD's quickness will cause a lot of havoc.

If it turns out we don't trade up and the Giants pick him, I would implement a contingency plan and draft Zack Martin and play him at OG. While AD dominated the Senior Bowl, both AD and ZM practiced against each other 1-on-1 and it was reported that ZM was the only OL who was competitive against AD. The last thing I want to see is AD blowing up our offense for the next 10 years.

Sorry for the long post. I just wanted to put my 2 cents out there.

I started the off season out agreeing with you but i am information overload as now.
If we traded up for Donald or if we grabbed another value defensive player
at another position, great.
come on May 8th

I fear the trade up for any player, too many needs....gotta keep the picks or better yet, a trade down gives another one or two....

Aaron Donald is pretty much a no-brainer for us.

I think he'll be there, too.

I would be utterly stunned if he were there at 16. This Donald talk is moot to me at this point, because I think he goes top 10. As a matter of fact I think there's a better chance he goes top 7 than slides to 16.

Now, in a draft this deep a 3rd round pick is very valuable. So what I'm saying doesn't discount the possibility that a 3rd round offer gets us into the top 10 for him.

I originally didn't want to trade up for anyone, even Donald. I've been waffling lately though on that and would now be okay if we moved up a little to ensure the Donald pick.

As I have said before, I don't think Donald gets past the Bears. I could be wrong but I never am.

I don't know. They are the only team I see taking him. But I get the feeling they're going to surprise people. I know Trestman said they're not going to a 3-4 yet, but I believe that's cause they don't have the pieces.

If the pieces are there, maybe they consider?

Have been saying this same notion for months. However I can now see Minny and Tampa picking him now. I think it would be foolish for them if one of the top QB's is still on the board at there pick.

I guess we will find out in about a week. I hope this happens as I am fine giving up a 3rd for AD. I know we need talent, but I want dynamic talent.

Which leave you to think that if we had a chance to spend a 3rd, plus a 7th and move up to slot - 11.
Would you do it for Donald?

I like Aaron Donald so much that he makes me feel naughty. Is that wrong? Is that TMI?

No way he makes it to 16. And if we trade I want to move back, not up.

Donald has pretty much solidified his status as one of the top 10 players available. It is not just a Bears or nothing thing with him anymore. Detroit, Tampa Bay, Minnesota and the Rams could also take him.

If anyone is still pinning hopes on him making it to #16, I believe they will be a sad panda on draft day.

I don't believe other teams are as hyped about Donald as most Cowboys fans and the draft media. At the end of the day, scouts are going to be concerned about his size.

Tampa has Gerald McCoy and they signed Seattle's co-starter at 3-tech Clifton McDonald. At #7 they are probably taking somebody like Evans or Jake Matthews. Most people believe that the Lions will take the top CB at #10. Tennessee has a 3-tech that had 10.5 sacks in 2013 and a solid young backup behind him. The Giants normally like bigger DTs like recently departed Linval Joseph at over 320 pounds and last years 2nd round pick also at over 320 pounds. The Bears say they are going to use a 4-3, but their D-Coordinator, DL coach, and LB coach have all primarily coached the 3-4. They will probably run a hybrid which might not be a good fit for Donald.

It appears that in almost all circumstances that top tier player is going to be available at #16. If that turns out to be a QB, then somebody is probably willing to make a favorable trade to get that player.

It's not wrong because you suggest that it is Donald who makes you feel naughty. It's wrong because I've known you for many years now and in every single one of them, you were pretty much naughty, well before any of us even heard of Donald. I think you are using Donald as a crutch here.

That is all..........
