About "Adam Jones" and "Terry Johnson"...

ndanger suggests that we solve this entire problem by calling them PaJo and TaJohn.

"Pacman" is his thug name and he needs to not be a thug anymore. Who cares what he wants to be called?
I understand your point, but the NFL acknowledges that as his name, what's teh big deal?

Just like I'm not sure why this thread is a big deal. Tank, Terry, Adam, Pacman. When they get on the field, we'll be calling them Tank and Pacman or Johnson and Jones or whatever nickname we decide to give these guys.

To the general public, he's Magic Johnson. Period. Perhaps he's not comfortable being called Earvin by those who don't know him well.

And perhaps Pacman and Tank are not comfortable with "Adam" and "Terry" in any situation.

We don't know... but what is crystal clear is that they prefer Pacman and Tank. There is no good reason for fans to call them anything different.

We call the other Ervin Johnson, "Tragic" Johnson. :)

My name now is Superman. I am not comfortable with my real name in any situation.

The beauty of it all is we can call anyone whatever we want.

Duane Parcells became Bill Parcells. Or "Purcells," if you're Jerry Jones.

Oops, that's actually Jerrel Jones.

Who got rid of Texas Schramm and Thomas Landry.

Who worked with Gilbert Brandt.

Well, if he truly wants to separate himself from his thug past then dropping the nickname would be a good idea. But that's just my opinion of course.

For the "what's the big deal!?" people, read my original post.

I never said it was a big deal, I apologized in advance for the rant, and said it's just something that has annoyed me "a little".

I've seen threads here regarding the misspellings of player names (Michael Irving, Jason Whitten, Terrance Newman, etc.), so it's not like this sets a new precedent.

I've also seen threads where people try inventing nicknames for our new players.

So I figured I'd make one trying to save a couple Cowboy nicknames that the guys use as their first names.

Or at least waste some time debating something on a boring, late Tuesday night.

Just scanning the first page, I see threads regarding some stupid NFL Network list that doesn't have Jimmy Johnson as a top motivational coach (NOBODY RESPECTS US! COWBOY BIAS!) and about 4 played-out Roy Williams threads.

If you prefer those threads, why are you here?
My name now is Superman. I am not comfortable with my real name in any situation.
Do something to have the general public know you as "Superman" and "Superman" you shall be. :) The DC Comics people will sue your pants off, though.
"Pacman" is his thug name
Shall we change the name of any player who gets into trouble? What was your new name for Michael Irvin after the coke 'n hookers thing?

Michael became his "thug name"!
Well, if he truly wants to separate himself from his thug past then dropping the nickname would be a good idea. But that's just my opinion of course.
And that's HIS call, right?

This thread is a sure-fire indciation that the dog days of the off-season are here. Not enough to talk about, so let's pick something truly trivial.

I'd been calling him Adam for that reason. But if he prefers Pacman then I'll call him that.

According to WoodysGirl, Mickey asked him what he prefers to be called and he said Pacman.

He even had "P. Jones" on the back of his jersey in Tennessee.

Calling him "Adam" makes about as much sense as calling Tiger Woods "Eldrick".

Why are you here? Is *****ing and moaning about a thread any less trivial than the thread itself?

The funny thing is that everyone who says how trivial this issue is would be PISSED if the people around them started referring to them as something other than the name they prefer.

This isn't a Cassius Clay vs. Muhammad Ali scenario, Pacman is a nickname... that means that it isn't his name, it's just what people call him, unless he joins the Religion of Namco then what does it matter what "name" fans choose to use?

I personally prefer Pacman, not Adam Jones, not Pacman Jones, just Pacman. However I'm not going to complain when somebody calls him Adam Jones, or even Rainman.

The next time I'm around him, I'll be sure to call him Pacman.....

I'm so glad we "people" voted you our official spokesperson. I don't know what we'd do without you looking out for our best interests.

What does it matter what fans think, period? Why do we post our opinions on the team here? They won't affect Jerry's or Wade's decisions.

And yet, we have threads about "when should we start Pacman", etc.

TSN: So, how did you get your nickname?

JONES: When I was a baby, I'd usually go to the bottle like a Pac-Man machine, so my mom called me that, and it stuck with me.

Some "thug name", huh?

I stand corrected. You guys know better than his mother.

How often do you refer to Tiger Woods as "Eldrick"?

Why are you here? Don't like the thread, get out. Quite simple.

Why did you post the thread? If you don't like the responses, get out. Quite simple.

See how that works.

Personally, I think you need to take a timeout from the thread, because you obviously can't handle it. JMO, of course.

You want this thread? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THIS THREAD!

Again...... what does it matter? If I heard somebody refer to Tiger as "Eldrick" I probably wouldn't have a clue who they are talking about at first. People know Pacman as Adam "Pacman" Jones, calling him "Adam" wouldn't be a stretch by any measure of the imagination.

If you don't want rebuttal's I'd suggest you state your opinions to a brick wall or take WG's advice, because for something that "only annoys you a little" you are taking it quite seriously it would seem.

Actually, Johnson's nickname is "Buck" and that is how he is known to his family and friends.

"Buck" was a nickname he got with the Lakers (as in "young buck").

I went to Michigan State. In college, I worked with someone who had been one of his closest friends since they were young. She called him Earvin.

I posted the thread for those who might be interested in the topic.

If you reply to the thread with "this thread is stupid!" or "it's a non-issue!", then the thread wasn't intended for you.

Do you show up to debates on issues you have no interest in, then raise your hand at the end to say "I think this issue is boring"?

Why get involved with something you think is stupid or a non-issue?

Don't respond to the thread, and it will soon disappear from the front page and never re-emerge.

If you've responded several times, then I suppose it interested you enough to take a nice little chunk out of your morning.

Ok hold up..... I stopped reading right there, because this is such a simple concept.

To have a "debate" you must have differing opinions.... it's not a debate if everybody is saying the same thing "Yeah I can't stand it when people call him Adam" over and over.

So if what you wanted was to debate a subject you should pay close attention to what others are saying in their rebuttals, instead of getting upset and dismissing them.

If what you want is a debate, quit griping everytime somebody says it's a non-issue, because frankly that's part of the debate. You're the one who brought up the topic, you should thus understand that people are going to feel that it isn't a big deal. Get it? That's their opinion, that's their thoughts on the subject you brought forth, and it's a valid opinion, because they feel it isn't as big of a deal as you're making it out to be. You can't ask for a debate, then tell people to get out of the thread when they bring you their opinion.

So again, if you didn't want an rebuttal's to your topic, you should have not posted it.
