He was asked about the play and said he probably got away with a hold on Witten, but he would take it. Don't remember who tweeted it, and I'm 2 lazy to find it.

It looked like Barry Church actually got up higher than Jones did lol, but great recovery by Jones nonetheless.

If this is how he can regularly guard TE's, this nickel defense is gonna be nasty.

It's hard to tell, but it doesn't seem obvious if so. Maybe a tug on the jersey, but that likely isn't going to get called when it doesn't seem to impede the route at all. I don't understand how Witten is so good at shaking defenders with that move when he's so old and slow.

great recovery speed by Byron on Witten. He really gave him the inside but wasnt worried

Agreed, I think that was a showcase of his foot speed even more than his jumping ability. Special athlete that looks to have some real football skill, nasty combination.

Still a nice recovery on Jones' part.

This play is made possible by the plays preceding it, where you carry Witten in or up over and over. Then on that crucial down that we all see, he favor's to the inside like he setting up an inside cut, throw's the shoulders in and plants his inside foot cutting to the outside, where even the best possible coverage struggles to protect against the room he creates with his body. He has an ability to gauge his speed and time his catch perfectly with his hands away from his body. And even when the ball catches him closer to the body due to the velocity Romo tends to throw with in pinch situations, he still manages to make contested catches...particularly when we need it the most. For the rookie to be able to make up ground like that was more impressive than the jump to me.

The makeup speed isn't particularly impressive. Witten slows up a bit at the end and it allows Jones to catch up 2-3 feet of space. But he makes up the most distance when he jumps -- and his jump looks to be easily more than 10 feet, all while trying to get height as much as he's trying to get distance. It is the jump that gets him the PD more than anything. Getting that much force into the ground to get his body up and forward that far while his legs are basically already extended due to running is crazy. At most he should just be able to propel himself outward with a leap. But he has the force to get up in the air and actually gain considerable speed with his jump.

I keep seeing Gregory putting a mitt into Tyron's chest getting him on his back foot. Now Tyron can't hit him I get that but Gregory has very good hands Weems seems to have pretty decent feet. Beasley got nice and open on that outside release on Scandrick. Fred/Martin double team is hard for Hayden to beat. Will, 45 I think, saw it and tried to make a play as well. Nice to see him not staring down the QB like some rookies.

Old man still got it. He's gotten open with that shimmy at the top of the route more times than you could count.

I take it that is Collins with the starless helmet at LG.

People are now breaking down every aspect of an OTA play.... Wait til they start filming these guys conditioning drills in March. The track experts and Olympic weight lifters will have a field day!
