About time of possession

The Cowboys won it 36:43 to 23:17. Hopefully this game is a stark rebuke to those who steadfastly believed that investing in the offense would somehow rest the defense and make them better.

You weren't impressed by the RB today?

Every time the Giants beat us it's like that. This is has been going on with them for 10 years. I'm not suprised at all. I knew when it's was 6-0 it probably wasn't going to end well. Today was a game I've already seen.

You don't take advantage of red zone opportunities you'll lose espiecially ! When we play the Giants !

Most are aware TOP is meaningless unless you score touchdowns and keep your opponent from scoring more touchdowns than you.

Wooooo, a rebuke. Not only a rebuke but a stark rebuke!

We played the team with the 6th overall offense last year with a rookie QB and four of our five DEs out. If we convert one of the FGs into a TD we win, or if TWill gets out bounds we win. Would that have proven the opposite point?

I understand what you're saying but , how many times did we say those types of "what if's" last season? I was there vs the Seahawks when we lost by 1 point. This game seemed no different :(

Exactly, TOP is absolutely important and a main identity of this team. It is likely the reason this team was in so many close games last year and now this year considering the QB situation and overall lack of talent on defense. Has it translated to wins? No, but it has kept us frustratingly close in almost every game.

Bottom line is we don't get enough TD's . Lack of creativity in redzone. Even last year with freaking weeden and cassel we were world beaters until we reached that redzone!

It would have made a difference if the offense converted what were FGs into TDs.

The defense played well enough to get a W. It just did not play over it's head, which apparently is what Garrett and Linehan need.

I hear you, but I completely disagree with trying to prove the larger point about controlling TOS with this one game. If we only convert one TD in the entire game it negates the advantage. This was just one game, its like saying Dez Bryant will finish the season with 16 catches for 128 yards because the trend from this game will continue.

But I think that is the point. If you want to win with a TOP offense and 'just enough to get by" defense you need to be flawless on offense. Every mistake matters.

That's too much to depend on in the modern NFL, especially with a rookie QB winding up as the starter.

Well isn't that the point?

Their defense will be tired and we will score more TDs! Our defense will be rested and we'll prevent more TDs!

It's...not true.

The defense gave up 2.2 points per drive, which would've ranked 28th in the league last year (according to @percyhoward ). In all likelihood, the only reason they didn't give up more points was because the time of possession was so lopsided.

Another proof the system and play calling matters. You can have great talent but if the system sucks, the results aren't going to be great.

I didn't see Dez run one slant or drag route. He is one of the best YAC receivers yet we throw a screen to Witt. Where was the back shoulder throws to Dez today? Dak was doing great in preseason with them.

No, the point is you wouldn't be here saying a word if our offense had finished the job behind the concept.

They didn't. And here you are.
