No trades, just the picks we have right now. Although, to be honest, I'd like to see us trade down with the 1st pick and aquire more early 2nd rd picks.
Rd1 Earl Thomas CB/FS Texas Ht: 5-10 Wt: 197 40: 4.45 - Thomas has excellent Athletic Ability. Great coverage skills, good hands and has that attitude that says if the ball is in the air, it's mine. Could be a little better tackler but has everything your looking for in a DB otherwise. May actually play CB in the NFL. Has those kinds of skills. Excellent STs player and has natural leadership ability. Intelligent player you need in your defensive backfield.
or
Golden Tate WR Notre Dame Ht: 5-11 Wt: 195 40: 4.44 - This is an exceptionally quick WR who has RB skills. You look at his numbers the past two season and imagine him in our offense and it's easy for me to see him being the missing piece to our offense. You put him in the slot and he's a threat to take it all the way everytime he touches the ball. Runs excellent routes and will only get better. Has 25 TDs, 2576 yards and 161catches over the past two seasons. Started as a RB and was converted to WR. This player gives us the deep speed and quickness we need to pair with Austin. Very strong body and will get bigger and stronger in a year or two. No off the field issues. Good character guy.
Other Options are Mike Iupati OG Idaho, Brian Pierce DT UCLA or Trade down.
Rd. 2 Brandon Spikes ILB Florida Ht: 6-3 Wt: 256 40: 4.75 - Spikes is a do it all ILB. Very physical, very athletic, excellent football IQ and a natural leader on the field. Spikes All 1st Team SEC each of the last 3 seasons, Spikes also plays with a nasty streak. Good tackler, good technique, good hands, excellent in coverage, just a good football player. If he played OLB, he would be a sure 1st Rd pick. If he shows that he has the speed to play OLB at the combine, it's likely he will not be there in the 2nd round. This is a Football Player.
or
Charles Brown OT USC Ht:6-5 Wt: 292 40: 5.16 - Brown is a converted TE. He is not a player who could step in and start at LT immediately but, he has exceptional natural ability and with a season or two, could be a starting Blindside OT. He has only started for two seasons but, he has played against top level talent and received the best coaching there is at the NCAA level, while at SC. He plays in a Pro style offense so that is a positive. He has exactly what your looking for at LT. Excellent feet, good balance, agility, and exceptionally long arms. What lacks is technique, polish and experience. He is not a great run blocker but he is adeqate. However, he is very good in space. Might be the best pulling Tackle in this draft. Excellent attitude, takes coaching well and has good character. He needs to be coached and he needs to see more reps but he has what you can't coach. Exceptional physical talent and the right kind of attitude necessary to improve.
Other options here are Nate Allen FS Southern Florida, Patrick Robinson CB Florida State.
Rd 3 Jon Asamoah OG Ill. Ht: 6-5 Wt: 315 40: 5.00 - Asamoah is a tough interior lineman. Excellent run and pass blocker. Has long arms and very good feet. Great balance but can play a bit high at times. He does not use a punch very well so he will need to improve his technique here but he understands angles and leverage very well. Very strong player. He can stonewall DTs and can pull well. Gets out of his stance quickly and has an excellent motor. 3 year starter for Illinois
or
Matt Tennant OC/OG Boston College Ht: 6-5 Wt: 290 40: 5.06 - Tennant has not developed into his body just yet. He has the frame to add a good 20 or 30 lbs. He has problems with shorter players who can get under his pads but as he grows, he will eventually be able to physically dominate smaller players at the point of attack. Good long snapper and shotgun snap, has very good athleticisam for the position. Could also play G or possibly even RT. Typcial BC OL, hardworking and very intelligent. Some teams may think he's too lanky to play Center but as he grows, he is going to fill out his frame and could become a very nasty Center with excellent size and strength for the position. Also very flexible because he could possibly play 3 OL positions. He could go much higher or even slip just depending on his combine.
Other Options here are Marty Gilyard WR Cincinnati or Roger Saffold OT Indiana
Rd. 4 Akwasi Owusu-Ansah CB Iniana (PA) Ht: 6-1 Wt: 205 40: 4.48 - Owusu-Ansah is a small school player that has considerable skills for the NFL game. He's coming off a shoulder injury but that might not matter if he shows as well as his game suggests at the Combine. Recorded 10 INTs in 2008 and 4 in 2009, he has the skills to play press, is very aggresive at the LOS. Good quick feet, smooth packpeddle, turns and runs well, nice transition he has excellent physical skills. Can also play in zone scheme. Has very good closing speed and goes for the ball at it's highest point. Good strong hands allow him to pluck the ball. Does not tackle well. He's probably a cover corner. Was also all-conference as a return specialist. Owusu-Ansah returned three punts and two kickoffs for touchdowns in '09. In the previous two seasons, he had averaged 10.7 yards on 48 punt returns and 24.8 yards on 33 kickoff returns -- returning one punt and one kickoff for TDs in the 2007 season.
or
Lamarr Houston NT/DE Texas Ht: 6-3 Wt: 302 40: 4.93 - Houston is made for the 3-4. Very agile for a 300+ man, he is relentless in pursuit. Very powerful man. Excellent explosion off the ball and is massively strong with very strong hands. He can anchor a defensive line against much bigger opponents. Has the ability to engage and move laterally down the line to make plays. Can hold up against double teams and will not stop. Has good explosion and quickness as a pass rusher but needs to develop more pass rush moves. Uses hands very well and understands leverage but he will need to get better and shedding the block to get to the pass rush quicker. Was actually a RB in HS. Good tackler, very competative. Plays with above average motor and will play through injury. Houston can be used at NT or DE in a 34.
Other options here are Mitch Petrus OG Arkansas, Brandon Carter OG Texas Tech or Jordan Shipley WR Texas
6 CJ Wilson DE East Carolina Ht: 6-3, Wt: 284 40: 4:80 - Wilson has been a starter since his Freshman year. Does not have great edge speed but plays with excellent leverage and uses his hands exceptionally well to fight off OLs. Good leg drive, can rush from the edge or interior. Very strong player, stacks well, pursues well and makes tackle. Understands containment and has good initial burst off the line. Does not have great speed, just good quickness and speed. Good balance, fights double teams well. I think he fits into a 34 as a DE. Plays hard and with good motor. Does not give up. Excellent production. In 54 games has recorded 192 tackles, 45 TFLs and 27 Sacks. His motor and attitude should allow him to compete on STs as well.
or
Myron Rolle SS/FS Florida St. Ht: 6-2 Wt: 217 40:4.59 - Rolle did not play in '09. Actually graduated early from FSU (2 and 1/2 years with 3.75 GPA) and was names a Road Scholar. Rolle is an interesting prospect simply because he has been away from the game but did compete at the 2010 Sr. Bowl. This is a very intelligent kid with exceptional physical skills. He is/was a solid tackler. Reads and reacts very quickly, always in the right position, very good closing speed, smooth backpeddle, nice recovery speed, good instincts and plays the ball well in the air. Battles for the ball and is a solid tackler. Will take on blocks and still make plays. The only think he really doesn't look good at is that he sometimes looked uncertain in the Sr. game. Appeared to be somewhat hesitant. Does not go for the big play. Would rather rap up and make the sure tackle. I suspect that all of this could improve once he gets back to football full time. I think he's probably more of a SS then a FS but he has the ability to do either. Can play zone or man. He's a very interesting player with rare physical skills. Very good character guy. If he works hard, he could turn out to be a Darren Woodson type player.
Other options here are Robert Johnson FS Utah, Antonio Brown WR Central Michigan, Jamar Chaney ILB Ole Miss
Rd 7 Walter Thurmond CB Oregon Ht: 5-11 Wt: 182 40: 4.53 Thurmond is a highly regarded CB that was injured all of '09. Prior to his injury, Thurmond recorded 236 Tkls, 35 passes broken up and 11 Ints. Good athleticisam, good speed, agility, good ball skills and lots of experience. If he heals up, he could be a real steal.
or
Dace Richardson OT Iowa Ht: 6-6 Wt: 305 40: 5.18, Marshall Newhouse OG TCU Ht: 6-3, Wt: 326 40: 5.06.
Marcus Easley WR Connecticut, James Starks RB Buffalo or Cameron Sheffield OLB Troy.
UFAs Mike Aguayo OT UTEP Ht: 6-4 Wt: 295 40: 5.03 - Played both LT and LG for the Minors. Good feet, slides well, could use more strength and technique work but good natural ability. Excellent agility for the position. Good downfield blocker and has a good motor. Plays in a passing offense ranked 14th in the Nation. Also anchored an OL that averaged 147 yards rushing per contest. Could end up being drafted much higher depending on NFL workouts. His motor and attitude should allow him to compete on STs as well.
