The heavy use of LSD caused Barrett to suffer mental meltdown.

That's true - whether they could have survived the personality clashes was never going to be an issue because Barrett's mental health wouldn't have allowed him to last that long.

The funny thing is that it's probably Barrett's mental health that intrigues people as much as his music. Had he just quit or Pink Floyd just fired him without the mental issues he would have been forgotten much easier. The story about him sinking deeper and deeper into mental illness is largely what makes him such an interesting figure.

Gilmour took the place of Syd Barrett

Of course, I was just drawing a comparison between the singers in that both sets were iconic for each band.

Gilmour took over completely after Waters, which is what made me think of Scott v Johnson...

Carry on!

Brian.

He took over and they didn't miss a beat...Angus would be irreplaceable though.

I saw them last tour..great as usual.

There is no wrong answer. Brian Johnson for me simply because he was vocals on my favorite AC/DC song.

Back in Black. One of the best albums from any band.

I believe it's the second best selling album of all time... certainly a classic and my second favorite (behind Boston's first album)...

That's a fact. With Barrett they had a loyal, but small following, and the money wasn't going to be significant enough to keep them together through the personality clashes. Gilmore/ Waters is what elevated them to a differnt level. I wish I had been able to see them live. I understand it was a great show.

I've been fortunate to see them four times. The original Dark Side of the Moon tour in '72. The second Dark Side of the Moon tour in '74 when they played songs that changed titles and appeared on Wish You Were Here. The Animals tour in '77. Then The Wall Tour in '80. I never did see them after Roger left. I had hoped they'd get together again after they got together for Live8. Sadly it will never happen now.

I'd say the second tour was the best as a concert. Echoes was absolutely spellbinding, and is still my favorite Floyd song.

I saw an news items a few days back where they interviewed Roger. He is to go back on the road with another tour featuring The Wall. He confirmed that Dave Gilmour will make a guest appearance at one of the dates, but didn't say which one. I haven't seen any confirmed tour dates yet. To be honest I probably won't go. If I cannot see Dave, Nick, Rick and Roger back together then it wouldn't be the same.

IMO 70's was the greatest time for rock music. There were so many great groups releasing "concept" albums and putting on a show. Good times for this old fart.

Bon Scott just had one of the classic rock voices, ala Dio. I will say they didnt skip a beat with Johnson, which is rare for a band. Usuallly replace the lead singer and the next stop is the band playing the county fair.

Having spent several months feeling very down when Bon died, I just couldn't believe that anyone could ever replace him.

To his credit Brian Johnson did, and is/was very good at it.

Having been fortunate enough to see AC/DC live with both of them, it's very hard to pick either, but at a push I would go for Bon Scott.

You have to be careful seeing old bands from the 1970's. Sometimes the lineup barely resembles the one you want to see.
