Acceptable Substitutes

The issue is other teams also know the draft is deep at WR. Trading Cooper would amount to buying high and selling low.

Most likely if you part with Cooper either via free agency his salvage value is a 3rd round pick, minimum.

So as I see it, you can tag and trade him, and likely get more than a 3rd round comp pick out of him or let him walk in fee agency and most likely get a 3rd round comp pick out of him. So there is salvage value to that trade.

I like Amari, the player, enough that I would like to see us sign him to a new deal, but I would not break the bank for him.

In addition, you better remember that we gave up a 1st to get cooper. That certainly plays into this. You dont give up a 1st for what, 22 or so games and then not resign the guy that has played clearly like a number 1 pick is supposed to play.

I'm sure it plays into Jerry not wanting to look like a fool, but the 1st we gave up for Cooper is sunk cost. Paying too much for Cooper now won't recover that sunk cost.
