What did they **? They responded to a call that was desribed to them as a possible suicide attempt and they put that in their report.

You are as bad as the media if you took what was merely an initial report of the responding officers as if it was the final conclusions of a full investigation.

1. They leaked the report. TO has the right to privacy as well as any of us. At least until the facts are taken account of.

2. It was not described as a suicide attempt. Taking pills can mean other things as well. They assumed it was a suicide attempt.

3. Their defensive posture and comments regarding TO being "1/10 the man" than the officers are, is superbly unprofessional.

I agree. The root cause of everything was the leaked report that came out before the investigation was complete and all the facts were know. Had that not happened, yesterday would not have been nearly as big of an event.

Now the police department is offering their own spin-- how are they qualified to judge "accidental overdose"? An overdose is something only a doctor could qualify. Why are the police classifying the incident to begin with? Last I heard it was a fire and rescue medical emergency.

Guess the take that Owens suffered a reaction to a mixture of Vicodin with nutritional supplements doesn't sound as ominous as "overdose" so it can't go into an official report about something that has gained such public scrutiny and police attention.

Funny thing is, i've never been a fan of TO. While i never really thought he was a bad person, I despised everything I thought he stood for. TO, to me, was the epitome of immaturity, poor taste, and unsportmanlike qualities.

Threads like this, the constant bombardment by the media, and the lack of understanding (or willingness to try to do so) by most has not only made TO seem very human, but a strong candidate for some measure of sympathy.

Now, I'm not saying that TO is without fault in many of his media exposures, nor do I know all of the facts in this current debacle; but I think many on this board, wether attempting to simply wait for "all of the facts" or otherwise, have shown very little impartiality. Have I become a TO apologist? Perhaps, but the media made me one.

I'm not going to fault the DPD for operating under the assumption that this was a suicide attempt. It's pretty easy to come to that conclusion, and they were just doing their job responding to the call. I just think the air should have been cleared sooner. Once they had enough facts to determine that this wasn't a suicide attempt, they should have made a statement saying so.

The thing that pisses me off is this Sr. Corporal from the DPA. White I think?? TO never blamed the police department, and I don't think Etheridge was intending to do that either. Her comments were twisted by the media. TO then came to the mic and thanked the DPD and fire Dept. for responding. To come out and mock him and basically call him less of a person is bush league and embarrassing. White is the one who should be apologizing for this unwarranted outburst. Outrageous.

The media does tend to overdo it however, without the media we would not have daily press conferences, televised football games, HDTV, or internet message boards. We may not like to admit it but they're giving us exactly what we want, imagine the chaos if we did not have up to the second updates yesterday? All of our fandom would have been in upheaval, constantly clicking "refresh" without any new threads!

By media I meant news, real news. News is not entertainment! News is facts, not speculation. If you don't know you don't put it out there.

Unfortunately its been a longlong time since news was not a form of entertainment.
