Then that may mean that they will pay him...?

it means it will be open season on him starting March 2nd, Baltimore could re-sign him, and someone like the Titans could sign him as well

San Francisco will grab him faster than you can blink an eye.

They have the money and the connections.

Yeah that is the route I see that taking.

I dont think it is realistic to think this team is going to spend free agency money on players for our defense.

I think this offseason is going to be all about offensive upgrades and future players....

At least i hope this draft is about the offense.

sounds logical, all I know is his price is going to go through the roof

Thomas will probably be signed by San Fran and he will comand a very large contract. Nolan knows that Thomas is a playmaker, having coached him in Baltimore as d-coordinator, and will have the cap space to pay him.

Look for Thomas to sign a 5 year deal (he will be 30 when the season starts) at around $30-35 million with a signing bonus of around $15 million.

Just like I thought. They were trying to bait him into signing a long term deal by giving him the old "either way your with us" line.

I think SF will go after him hard! The Cowboys MIGHT give him a look and don't rule out New England because they have a ton of cap room!

he isnt worth breaking the bank for...

he'll be 30 this yr and he's had double digit sacks once (and it was this yr)

yeah, because clearly the Commanders have proven over the years throwing all kinds of dough around for big name free agents guarantees alot of success

David the difference is we wont throw ~10 mil at a 3rd string wide receiver we would throw money at a player who will come in and contribute (A. Henery, A. Akin, J. Fergy and so on)

for each success their has to be a failure unfortunatly

We don't have all the cap room some of you guys think we have. Yes, we have quite a bit of cap room THIS YEAR, but we've got some guys whose cotracts will be coming up soon, such as Newman and Romo, etc. We can't spend all of our cap room this year and just forget about the upcoming few years. That would be very foolish and unproductive in the long run. It would cause us to lose some guys we don't want/need to lose. It's called fiscal responsibility, something our government knows nothing about.
